I just purchased a 3 month old Silky Terrier from a pet store. He has had diarrhea a few times. Just every once in a while his stool will look like diarrhea One time his stool was just a few drops and had a little bit of blood in it. I haven’t found any more blood in it. The store gave me Albon to help, they said he could be nervous switching to a new environment. I gave him 1 cc last night and his stool was looking normal this morning. He coughs every once in a while. I have never had a dog cough like this. He has had all his shots, just wondering what it could be because I have a 1 year old miniature schnauzer, don’t want her to catch anything! He plays normal and is full of energy. I also took him to the vet yesterday and they said he looks fine?

He only weighs 3 pounds. The store said the only food he was used to was that Chicken Soup stuff. I have been feeding him that. I got a different kind at the vet for small breed puppies. Didn't know if the food had an effect on it or not.

Could he have parvo with having the shots for it?

Bring him back. If you are in love with him, bring him to the vet, then, sue the pet store for vet bills.

did the Vet not check for Parvo? Intestinal Parasites? An X-ray to check for a blockage of some sort? If not? Take that puppy to a different Vet! Blood in the stool is a big thing! Coughing could be something in the throat or even Kennel cough....

That dog should not be coughing like that. It is possible the coughing could be worms - did you have a stool sample checked for parasites by the vet? Parvo can cause caughing and diarrhea, but you said he checked out ok at vet's. I would keep a close eye on him, and get him back to the vet if he gets any sicker.

Hard to say what is causing the cough, if the vet says he is fine, maybe it is something else. For instance, do you take him for walks with a leash? do you use a collar or harness. Smaller dogs have sensitive trachea's and it is recommended that you walk them with a harness as the collar can cause irritation to the trachea resulting in 'coughing'.
As for the diarrhea perhaps it is the food? Did you change it suddenly or do a gradual change over. You should never change an animals food suddenly. It can cause stomach problems. Gradually add more and more of the new food into the old. It is easier on their systems that way.

The cough may be kennel cough>Did the vet mention this or check him for this?If so,,he will need antibiotics.Seeing your dog has already been to the vet,,you can call & ask him questions. The diarrhea sounds like worms as all puppies have them,,was he checked for worms? If not,,bring a "sample" in to check out. There are several types of worms & the vet tech can determine which type it is & give the proper meds.Droncit is 1 pill that cures the dog of any worm.

Take him to the vet!! My puppy started coughing, got diarrhea, turned very listless. Vet said he was okay, just a little nervous. A week later I had to have him put to sleep because he had parvo. GET HIM CHECKED!!

Always best to buy a puppy from a reputable breeder and not a pet store. I would take him back to the vets if I were you and tell him your concerns. If it ends up costing you money, present the bills to the pet store.

your vet says he fine? that's strange. never heard of a dog coughing and being fine! you should get a second apion! could be a cold, kennel cough or heart worms!! all are spreadable to other dogs!! be careful not to let them eat after one or other, just in case!!! lots of luck!!
