Check out the "Idiot's Guide" or the "Dummies" books. They cover all topics, so I'm sure they have them about religions. They're pretty good and they should cover a lot of the basics and then some. At Barnes & Noble, you should find a LOT of helpful books about Islam, it will just take some time to look through them for what exactly it is you want.
