Relieved when your relationship is over? What makes you stay with someone so long, until the thought of never seeing them again actually relieves you? Why does it get to that point, instead of the point where you can end things on a good note, and still stomach seeing the person around from time to time?

I think a lot of it is a comfort issue. It's easier to stay with the "known" bad than risk the possibility of something worse. Many people will stay till they just can't stand it, and some will stay even longer. Yes, communication might make things easier, but there are times when even that won't work as the people are incompatible on too many levels.

I think that people just get into a routine. It is easier to stay with someone that you know than to start dating all over again and have to get to know another person. It sucks but sometimes it takes alot to end something that you know isn't right in the first place.

That would make too easy and a bit boring if everything ended the same way, wouldn't it? Most situations and relationships are different because of different people, their personalities, etc. I've felt what you are feeling and have moved on to enjoy the rest of my life.

I used to keep thinking my girls had a good side that I could bring out or which would predominate.

I kept getting hurt and they enjoyed hurting me.

You often cannot teach an old dog new tricks.

It can be hard to meet women and easy to meet girls. It can be very hard to meet a quality person that treats you right.

If someone hurt you or you hurt them or both you do not really want to meet given the bad memories triggered take over.

Nobody likes to fail. People stick things out hoping it will get better. The relief comes when the decision is final and you grieve and move on.
