Because Christians feel the bible is the only recorded message from God, and that it is infallible and accurate in every way and contains the only truth about God and his will. If you do not acknowledge the bible as truth you are an unbeliever, but the bible itself says this also.
If you are not a Christian and do not accept the bible then you are an unbeliever. I will go further, The bible does say if you reject the word of God even if you are a so called believer, you can still wake up and find yourself in hell. Jesus himself even said there are going many on the last day who thought they were serving him because they did believe and did quote scripture and did do all he commanded or at least they thought they did and Jesus will tell them they are evil doers and unbelievers said that narrow is the gate and straight is the way to heaven, but broad is the gate and wide is the path to hell. Jesus himself said that few will find the right path.
So in their minds anyone including me will go to hell for not believing the bible. If anyone says you can be a Christian without believing the bible needs to read the bible.

Heathen is an uncommon word today among Christians. Some adults refer to unruly kids as heathens, but that has a bit different meaning. Perhaps you are worrying over your own preconceptions of words and not what they are commonly understood to mean. Also, many words have multiple meanings.
heathen
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural heathens or heathen
1 : an unconverted member of a people or nation that does not acknowledge the God of the Bible
2 : an uncivilized or irreligious person
So, according to Webster's a heathen (noun) is a person who does not believe in God as described in teh Bible, or is uncivilized, or is irreligious. Since I don't know what they may have meant when they used the word, I have no idea as to the accuracy of any comment you allude to here.
I don't know anything about 'kaffir.'

I am not here to judge you, only to try to help with your question.
Do you believe in Jesus Christ as the son of God? That He is the way, the truth, and the life, and that No one comes to the Father (God) without going through Jesus Christ?
I am unsure why others would call you those names. If you would like to add additional details to your question, it may help some to give you a better response.
May the love and peace of God surround you.

Because you don't believe in their version of god or in their version of the truth. Typically an un-believer is someone who does not accept the divinity of jesus. However, religions prey upon the fact that we as humans are social animals and they use this tactic to make you feel less worthy and like you don't fit in...that you are in some sort of dirty minority. You aren't. Islam and christianity may be the fastest growing religions, but the unbelievers still out number them. We are atheists, agnostics, buddhists, hindus, jews, pagans, and many more. You are in good company. And these 2 religions are only gaining members through fear and force. It will pass, as all things must. I wear the title of "heathen" proudly, as we all should.

Because, I take it, you do not subscribe to any "official" religion, but have your own feelings about God.
Whilst I would hate offering you a concept that would in any way impose, I would like to suggest that you may click one day on "Rational Spirituality" on the Dhaxem website. It just may present further information along the lines you feel about God, written down by others who felt exactly like you.
Have a nice day.

I have no idea where your heart is, so I'll tell you what a believe is and you judge for yourself if you are one...
A christian believer is a person who believes that there is one God manifest to man as the Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit.
A christian believer is a person who believes that Jesus (The Son) was born of a virgin (Mary) and lived a sinless life..
A christian believer is a person who believes that Jesus was executed as the Sacrificial Lamb of God on Calvary's cross for the sin of the world (You and Me)..
A christian believer is a person who believes that by trusting Jesus to give us eternal life (because of His sacrifice) we are made children of God and given eternal life.
That's pretty much it in a very simple form.. You make the determination... Jim

You know? It isn't important what people's opinion is. There is only one opinion that will stand, and there is only one opinion that each of us will give an account to, and that is God's Word.
I've been called a lot of unsavory things as a believer, but it doesn't faze me. Why? Because I know who I am, and I know where I stand with God.
If you know where you stand, even if people try and knock you off of where you stand, you know what to get right back up to stand on.

Because it's not their picture of God. I get called a non-believer all the time, and that is far from the truth.

Don't worry about what other think. as long as you believe that's all that matters./ you don't have to prove anything to anyone. they'll always take it as the wrong way and never try to understand. See I believe that there is some god out there. But i don't like to talk about it becuase they always end up in arguments and people get down to the conclusion and say that im going to hell and that I dont believe in god. Someitmes I think they are brainwashed. And i don;t want to be acting like them with such dedication to someone they never met. Only you know yourself better than anyone. So just dont even worry about what other say or try to prove your point it's just pointless.

To a Christian, a believer is someone who believes that Christ is God become man, and died a substitutionary death for their sins. They accept him as their savior. They are believers in Christ as their savior, not in God in General. Those who just believe in God are unbelievers in that sense.
