You really need to talk to your doctor. There maybe alternative medicine. Also, have you ever tried just weaning yourself slowly. Start by cutting your dosage in half. Then slowly cutting down dosage each day. Then every other day. And so on. You can do this. It won't be easy after being on this drug for so many years, but you can and if you are serious you will.

Zanax (Xanax) withdrawal should not be done alone. Do not stop taking this medication until you see a doctor who will probably recommend that you quit taking it very gradually.
Meanwhile if you are seeing the same doctor who prescribed this for you, consider a NEW DOCTOR.
It is terrible that you feel this way and an interested doctor should be able to help you feel better.
I was the way you describe last year and it is so awful-I got to hate myself.I was lucky to see a doctor ( a psychiatrist) who understood and tried me on a couple of medications until the right combination was found.
Now I am feeling great (and have lost some weight) , but it did take a huge amount of energy at the time, and I am only on a maintenance dose of my medication.
You may also find that talking to someone who understands how bad you feel will help you accept yourself a little more.
Do not pay any attention to those who tell you that, "you just need to pick up your feet, cheer up and do things and you will feel better. Those people are wrong. They will make you feel guilty and you are not guilty of anything except you have not been given the proper medical attention. It is not your fault that you feel so horrible.
Sure hope you get help as I think I know how awful you do feel, and please don't stop taking the 'zanax' all of a sudden, do it gradually and hopefully with some medical advice. Best of luck to you.

It sounds as if you think you are having side effects. Only a doctor can tell you if you are having them or if this is a new problem. Quitiing zanaz is extremely tough. The withdrawls are bad, hospital bad, especailly if you do it too fast. Why haven't you contacted the prescribing doctor? He could answer this, or has he allready and you don't like the answer? If so get a new doctor, but do not change your dosage until you talk to them about it.

What about the problem you started taking them for? Zanax is used to treat anxiety. Are you ready for that to come back after 8-9 years?

The bottom line: No one here can answer that question, it depends on your psychical and mental state. Regardless of my life experience or my medical training I cannot speculate on what will happen to you. Neither can anyone else. You need a docotor.

You should really consult a doctor before stopping medication like that, and even if your doctor says it's OK for you to stop he/she will probably put you on a schedule where you take less and less over time -- you know, "weaning" you off the medication. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES JUST STOP TAKING XANAX. That could cause a lot of serious health problems and could be lethal. If you want to get off the Xanax, see your doctor.

You will need to gradually reduce your intake of Xanax under the advice of a physician who can directly see you.

It is extremely dangerous to cut the drug all at once if your brain has become dependent on it.

I would advise seeing the Doctor who prescribed the drug immediately and telling her or him that you desire to remove yourself from the drug. They will start you on a regiment to slowly taper your use of the drug until you finally have no more use of it.

Talk to the doctor who gave them to you. You may need another prescription since it sounds like those arent working. If you want to go off of them dont do it on your own, you should get the advice of a physician.

Frankly it does not sound like you are being helped all that much by the anti-depressant you are taking..you mentioned all several of the classic signs of depression. Meds w/o counseling is something I cannot comprehend. Speak HONESTLY with your care giver...9 years and this result?? You deserve better than this we all do...Go---talk and be honest.
