Currently I am speaking with an interviener who is helping me help my family realize how critical our situation is. Anyone with information to help educate me to effectively help my family stay together and ultimatly help my niece with her addiction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance... Your thoughts, time, and simpathy have already helped.

If you have contacted an interventionist, let them handle talking to you and your family. They are the professionals.

If she is tearing your family apart (you said "help my family stay together") you may want to consider a support group. Contact your local Department of Social Services--they can send you to the right one.

I have taken xanex. It is a good medication but should only be taken AS NEEDED. I would check with her doctor and make sure that he is not over prescribing this med. If she is getting it on the street, that is another problem...maybe she has too much money available to blow on drugs. Put control on money or the doctor. My husband's daughter found a doctor that will give her a Rx for what ever she wants. She got a DUI from taking 5 xanex pills at one time. Maybe your niece needs to go in for some counseling. Today's teens are involved in so much and are under untold stresses in their lives.

Denial.....it is sometimes easier. Talk to your niece's folks. Tell them even if they do not believe that their daughter is having trouble with the drug, that SHE IS HAVING TROUBLE. Please, get her help before it is too late.
I will keep your niece in my prayers. Good luck.

an interventionist may help, but that whole family needs to be in counselling. A teenager addicted to anything is a symptom of a very dysfunctional family situation.
