what is the protocol for sending out invitations?

it is for a baby shower in November of this year.

I would say send them out about a month ahead of time that way people have time to purchase gifts and RSVP if they are coming or not. You won't be in such a rush that way either.

Even in East LA, I think the protocol for baby showers is that they are given by a friend, not initiated by the family nor the mother.
