Fill a pot with water and add salt - you want to have at least 8 cups of water, at least, for a pund of pasta (12-14 cups is better) - when you get a good rolling boil, add the pasta and set the time (don't add the pasta before the boil or it will get soggy).
Use a pasta for or just a long spoon to stir the pasta. Cook uncovered - the cooking times on pastas vary so check the box. Some people like their pasta's al dente (firm, almost a bit crunchy) while others like it nice and soft...that's up to you, but check in during the cooking process. You check it by fishing out 1 piece, pouring cool water on it, and tasting it (some people throw the pasta at a wall to see if it sticks - if it does - it's done...but this means it's pretty soggy - better to just taste it).
When it's done, get it out of the water quickly so it won't overcook - pour in a calander (or strainer) to seperate the pasta ...add cool water to the pan to make clean up easier.

This is the way I do it: First get a large point filled halfway or so of water. I boil the water and add salt and pepper. You can do whatever you want, You dont have to add them. When the water boils you just add your spagetti noodles and stir them every so often so they dont stick. If you can't tell when they are done get a dinner plate out and then get a spagetti noodle out and take the noodle and kinda toss it on the plate and if the noodle sticks, they are done =)

In a large (8 -10 quart pot) bring 6 - 8 quarts of water to a rapid boil. Add your spaghetti. Using a wooden spoon, long fork or a pasta ladel, gently move the noodles around until the water returns to a boil. Let them boil for approximately 8 - 10 minutes. Check one strand at 8 minutes...it should be just tender enough to bite through...if there is still a bit of crunch...cook another minute and check another strand. Drain and rinse with cold water to keep them from sticking together.

To cook spaghetti, you have to first get a skillet and put the meat if you want that in there and start letting it cook. You will need to check on this every so often. Then you bring water in a large pan to a boil. Once it is boiling poor the spaghetti in. You then let the meat and the spaghetti cook. The meat should be pretty done when it is brown everywhere. The spaghetti should be soft, and tender. Then you will put spaghetti sauce on it if you want. The meat and the sauce is optional, but better. This is how you make spaghetti.

The noodles, in a pasta pot for 18 min after the boil with a spoon of olive oil, or until you can throw it to the ceiling and it sticks.
The sauce, One large can of stewed Italian tomatoes, two cans of tomato sauce and one can of tomato paste with a can of water for each can opened. Saute` fine chopped onion and pressed garlic with some Italian seasoning and add to sauce. Crumble and lightly fry 1 lb of hamburger with 1 pack of sweet Italian sausage out of their casing. Add to sauce. Then take another package of Sweet Italian Sausage and cut into one inch chunks (do this while it is slightly still frozen for easy control and so it does not smash on you) and fry until lightly browned and add to sauce. Optional Ad ins--a lg can of sliced black olives, bell pepper thinly sliced and/or some sliced mushrooms. Slow cook for about 2 hours or until sauce is the consistency you like. Put over noodles, serve with and antipasto salad and some yummy garlic bread and a nice wine or a fine grape drink if you do not drink alcohol.

Follow the directions on the packaging, they are there for a reason, cooking times vary by type of pasta being cooked.

Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add a hearty pinch of salt. Wait for it to boil, add pasta; stir occasionally to keep it from sticking. Taste test a piece and if it's as done as you want, drain it and toss it with whatever you want. :)
