Confine him in a room separate from the rest of the house.

Buy him a dog crate, one that's big enough so he can stand but not too, too big, and put him in the crate with some toys before you go out. You might start with putting him in a short time and then gradually expand. You can even have him in the crate while you're home. Always play with him or do something fun with you get him out so he won't resent being put in.

What breed of dog do you have? Some get bored very easily and become destructive as a way of entertaining themselves.

Do you regularly exercise your dog? I walk mine for an hour a day and she's never been destructive, even as a pup.

Good luck!

Have you paying your dog attention since the baby arrived? Dogs need a lot of attention and, if they don't get it, they'll turn destructive an an effort to get negative attention.

Either crate train him or confine him to a small room (the bathroom, but put the toilet paper out of reach) or laundry room or put him in the garage, if you own one. Do you have a yard? Or are you in an apartment? Because if you have a walled yard, that's the natural answer and one that I figure you might have come up with on your own.

Have you tried putting a muzzle on him? They're not painful. I used to have a dog that reacted to a muzzle the way Superman reacts to Krytonite. All the energy would just ooze out of her and she'd lie there pitifully until I took it off. Either that or your dog would be so busy trying to remove the muzzle that he'll be distracted from other things.

Dogs need a lot of exercise. If you're not up to it, maybe you can hire a neighborhood kid to walk your dog daily. That might calm him down some.

You should put him in a crate when you leave and as soon as you get home let him out, he will soon associate that with you leaving and won't tear up stuff. Either that or try baby gates in the hall way. Keep him in the hall or some place not very many things can be ruined and train him slowly to respect people things and play or tear up his things.

what kind of a dog do you have? Really smart dogs get bored while you are away. Leave the T.V. on. Sometimes that helps. I have a Sheltie and she use to do the same thing. But i just recently gave her kitten and now she has something to do. I also leave the t.v. on for her. She likes animal planet and she thinks i am still around. The kitten and the t.v. really works.

Definitely get a crate or put him outside while you're out. my dog chewed up the couch when i decided she was going outside when there was nobody to supervise her. Good luck babe, everything will turn out okay.

you might want to put him in a kennel with a little bit of room to run around and put a few of his toys in with him just make sure the kennel isnt too small or he will be uncomftorble and make noise

You will have to kennel him/her. Start right away. He/ she is just acting out because of the new baby in the house. It will stop if you kennel him now.
