They sent a letter saying to reapply in 90 days and I did but they still turn me down? I can not understand why?

Some banks depend on your credit report and ratings to see if you qualify for a check card. I would find a different bank.

I agree with Gussyellis41. It is your own money. Just because you have bad credit does not mean you won't use the debit card wisely. Actual that has keep me from losing money. Just tell them not to have overdraft coverage. Sometimes that works.

That why I will always ask if I can get a check card right away. If I can not-I will find another bank. If they ask me if I going to order checks. No. I will wait on the check card.

Some check credit reports for both checking and the check card.
Some just check the credit reports for the checkcards.

Some banks just check telecheck or check systems. I try to find those banks.

Some banks that deny you a check card. Call them up and ask for just an atm card that can be used at merchants with a pin and ask for a wavier of any pin purchase fees. The logo on the card would be your banks logo and any of these other logos Nyce, Star, Cirrus, Maestro, Plus

This applies to accounts in the United States.

Which bank is it? Citibank did the same thing to me, I wrote a letter and explained that we don't have Citibank's in my state or within 100 miles of me, I couldn't write myself a check and cash it anywhere so there was no way for me to get money. All I could do was write checks to pay bills. After they understood that, they sent me one. Now I bank with Wamu and had no problems. If your bank is local they may not give you one. They probably ran a history check on you, have you had problems with banks before? If so, that's why.

This is odd... when I opened a checking account, it automatically came with an ATM card. Which bank do you do business with?

Take your money and find a new bank! They apparently don't need your business or they would offer you what you need.
