because god was imagined up by a human, and it was alng time ago when the bible etc, was created so the people who wrote it were close minded.
They were probably prey to god thanking him for keeping up attached to earth but would you belive it god has nothing to do with it, you can thank the accumulation of matter to create a body of enough mass to produce a gravitational field, thank you all mighty one.
But to answer you question, because our minds are confined to a related perception, we can't imagine things we dont understand, for example have you ever tryed to imagine what an atom looks like in the middle. you'll probably see little balls circling another one, thats because its hard to grasp a concept that we can't relate to something real, the inners of an atom is nothing like that but its the easiest way to understand it. Thats why god looks like us, cause he's limited to the human imaginiation.

and designed to reflect God's glory back to god
although made from lowly dust, the redeemed is destined to become the bride of Christ and go from Dust to Glory higher than the angels
