anyone at all? i read the term in a book and dont have a clue what it means?

If my memory serves me I have come across the term in one of the Flashman books by George Macdonald Fraser.

I believe it refers to a dangerous person, unpredictable in their actions. Cove is old (ish) English slang for a rogue, so perhaps the term "Bottle Covey" refers to the fact he would be even more dangerous after drinking the alcohol from the bottle.

macca - spot on, well deduced. A bottle covey is someone who gets very aggressive when they drink alcohol, usually to the point of fighting complete strangers.
