He becomes extremely aggresive for no reason and attacks me (and my friends) and won't let go. He's well fed, well taken care of, has lots of toys and has never been abused.
I got him from the Humane Society, he was born at the shelter and apparently his mother was ferrell, could this have something to do with it and how can I stop him?

Forgot to mention he is neutered and declawed (I had to declaw him, he was ripping my arms and legs to shreds in his attacks)

You don't indicate whether your cat is neutered. If it's not, you should get im neutered immediately. You also don't indicate whether the cat has been declawed or not. Declawing can lead to some pretty heinous behavioral problems such as aggression and biting. If he still has his claws and he's biting, try the training methods provided in the link to my other answer and you should have some success. It's never acceptable for a cat to bite for no reason and it can be trained out of him. As always, when you add lots of love, affection and mutual respect into your training methods, you get far better results.

Well if hes not fixed then get him fixed. Some male cats are agressive until they are fixed. You could also try tapping his nose. His nose is very sensitive and tell him no. My male cat who is 6 years old now use to be a big fighter and he still has his days. We ended up figuring out it was sexual agression so we gave him a stuffed toy and even though he is fixed everyday 2 or 3 times a day you can walk in an see him doing his thing. When hes done he comes out and is loving. But hes one that is closterphobic .He doesnt like anyone in his face. but he will give you a head butt and before he hits you with his claws he does warn you with a loud meow.

I had a cat that was the same way, well taken care of, no history of anything to cause it, was just aggressive and playful, loved to bite and scratch. We were told that because cats love to play and be rowdy and my husband and I were both gone at work all day he would be bored and sleep while we were gone and then be crazy when we got home. We got a second cat and you would not believe how much calmer that made him around us. They played together all the time and were much more relaxed with us.

Spraying cats with spray bottles works well. Also, if you want to really calm him down and have lots of pateience, cover the cat in a blanket and trap him in there for awhile. He'll meow for awhile and maybe even cry a little but this technique works wonders in showing the cat who's dominant. After awhile he'll quiet down and when you release him he'll be nice and gentle again.

I too have a cat who is from a shelter. He is well taken care of,and used to bite just about everyone in site just out of the blue.I started spraying him with clear water on the face, and after a while he began to realize that me,or whomever he attacked was going to spray hin if he tried to attack.Hes now calm, and gentle after several times of being sprayed.

My male cat would do that. I assumed it was because he was declawed, it was the only way to defend himself. He would bite and scratch with his back claws when he was playing, and then he'd get mad and bite and scratch for real, and jump and try to bite your neck. Never figured out how to make him stop except to stop playing with him when he got mad. You can't hit cats, they are dumb and don't know why you are hitting them, you will hurt it by hitting.

He probably tastes the salt on your pores and skin and springs to a decision he needs extra of it...hence the chew. No enormous deal....yet you likely prefer to deter him from doing that or he gets used to it and finally end up biting somebody else.

Has he had all his shots, like his distempered shot? Also, do you have other pets in your home or is it just him? I know my cat was like that toward me but when I got a new kitten he all of a sudden became very friendly. I'm not sure, but it sounds like he craves attention. If you have other pets he might be jealous.

He views you as a play/litter mate!!! When cats play, things tend to get pretty rough. He may need another cat to keep him company when it's play time.
