Sorry, ya gotta let time get you over your ex. Unfortunately, there is no hard and fast rule either.
I will suggest that occupying yourself with other things to prevent thinking about your ex will only prolong the "getting over the ex" problem.
There are days when you will think you're over them and then there will be the "mama-said-there-will-be-days-like-this" days! Just be ready for it and realize it is what it is.
Take your time. It doesn't mean you have to crawl into a closet and cry day in and day out either.

1. find another boy or girl friend (this is known as a rebound relationship and is not generally recommended)
2. do stuff you like. go see movies, hang out with your friends, eat comfort food, take a trip, get a massage.
3. write a list of all the stuff you're grateful for
4. write a list of all the reasons why you broke up -- insensitivty, jerkiness, unfaithfulness, whatever, and review it every day
5. make a list of the stuff you want to accomplish -- buy a boat, learn a language, go to mexico, whatever, and the steps you need to take to do them. you'llbe so busy doing that stuff, you won't have time to waste on yr ex!

The best way to get over an ex bf or gf is to get rid of any reminders of that person, box up any photos or momentoes of your relationship and either throw them away or give away some of those things. I was in a relationship for nearly 5 years and when I ended the relationship I took my boyfriend's pic and put it away and any stuffed animals he gave me I didnt acknowledge the gift when someone asked me about it.

Find someone else to take your mind off of your ex. Really...it's the best way. You need a rebound person. Also, it may help to make a list of all the bad things about your ex.

You pamper yourself, rediscover your friends and fall in love with YOU! We have all been there and most of us survive. No one should ever be so dependent on another person that their whole world falls apart when they go their separate ways.
LEARN TO LOVE YOURSELF - your ex will soon be just a memory and the bonus is that your newfound love will make you sparkle and shine and attract someone better than your ex.

If you have feelings, then it will take you time to deal with them and get over them. Don't contact your ex, don't check on them, concentrate on you and your life and making new friends. That's the only way you'll truly heal.

Well, its not exactly healthy, but you could always jump into another relationship! That usually makes you forget all about the ex. Or, you could just keep your mind busy!

You dont just find someone knew and give that person a fair chance with you and please do not compare him/her with your X I am sure if you dont do that you will find out that the time goes by so fast he/she will be the first page in a history book

If you loved him there is no fast way to do that. My advice is to just take one day at a time.
