it is your business whether you get your child immunized or not-in fact there is a huge movement in society TO NOT immunize (concerns of Autism)-don't let anyone intimidate you. It is not the law to immunize but you may run into problem when child becomes of school age.

It is always good for your child to have immunizations. They prevent very dangerous illnesses. Now, your son will have to have A LOT of shots in one lump and he will be very sore and very mad. I suggest after the shots that you bring him home and give him some tylenol so he won't hurt so bad. Also, this will help with the fever that he will surely get (completely normal). What people don't understand is that in order for your child to go to school and even some daycares they have to have these shots. It is to protect them not others. Some people argue that the immunizations cause autism. That is not true. The ingredient that was put in the shots that caused autism HASN'T been used in it for over 12 years. No one knows what causes autism, it could be environmental or genetic even. What's harmful is NOT getting them immunized. The local health department will immunize children for a very low (sometimes free) cost (the most I've ever heard is $5). They are the same shots you will get in the clinic or doctors office. In my state, it is required by law that children are immunized.
Be honest with the doc. Tell them you didn't think you could afford it, you didn't know about going to health department, or that you just didn't do it. I'm sure he will tell you the same thing I have already. Please get him these shots. I wish you all the best luck.

Tell them the truth. Explain to them that you were brought up that you didn't need immunizations and that you would like to be informed about the shots that your son will be recieving and what the pros are for the shots and what the side effects are. Most kids these days have to be immunized for school anyway. You also should inquire as to what shots you may still be able to get for yourself. How would you feel if you brought home a disease to your son. Not only that but it is important as a mom to keep yourself healthy because you are the caretaker for your son and it won't do either of you a bit of good if your sick.

These colds and fevers are not likely because he didn't get his shots (except maybe skipping the flu shot). The regular shots your son has missed are for diseases like wooping cough, hepititis, mumps, etc. These are serious diseases where the (very small) risk of side effects is greatly mitigated by the defenses gained. The shots are important not only for this health benifit but also for most schools, these are a requirement to be admitted to the school, public or private.
If you simply communicate your concerns regarding the shots to your practitioner, if the doctor is any good, he will understand and be able to explain much better than I can.
To those who are berrating this woman for not getting her child shots - there are valid health risks to getting the shots. The whooping cough vaccine is the first one that comes to mind. It has the side effect that it can cause epilepsy in some people. My wife can't get the shot because it caused epilepsy in her father. Also many vaccines contain mercury as a preservative. This isn't as common here in the US (since we use vaccines fairly quickly so preservatives aren't as much a concern), but in most third world countries, the vaccines we ship there have an unsafe level.
Like I said earlier in this answer though, in most cases, the benifit of getting the vaccine outweighs the risks associated. But not getting them, especially for these reasons, is a valid parenting choice.

Don't beat yourself up about it. You are correcting the problem now. Some people for religious or personal reasons do not believe in immunizations. Most of those kids have to be home schooled because they require shots to enroll in regular school.
You should just tell the doctor what you said here. That for a time you believed that they were un-necessary or un-healthy. Most doctors understand about things like that and will just be glad to see the child being taken care of. They would rather that than see a child be neglected because the parent is afraid of being scolded. Also remember about the colds, hand washing is very important.

First of all colds can be cause by allergies not a disease. He can
get a sinis infection even if he was up dated on his shots.
My Daughter is up dated on her shots and she get colds due
to her allergies. She's 9 years old. Even if you had an excuse
the Dr. will probably scold you for health reasons. My Daughters
has not taken my grand-daughterto the Dr. for a few months and my grand-daughter is 10 months old. The reason for that is because she does not have a Dr. and since she is working full time and in the day time it was hard to get the time off of work.
So all you have to do is look for a Dr. and take your child in and
they'll give him all the shots he needs.

It's good you've made the decision to get your little boy his shots. Any side effect shots cause are very small compaired to the chance he can come down with the diseases they protect him against.
Just tell them you were confused and worried about the side effets. They will tell you some things to put your mind at ease.
My girl is 16 months old and is smart, healthy and doing great and has not missed any shots

Tell him the truth, that you were advised not to get them. My son is also behind on his shots, but you will have to get them done eventually because children cannot enter kindergarten without their shots being up to date. So do it now before your child gets older. Some of these shots can be very painful for kids. At least at 2, they bounce back quickly. If the dr. gives you a hard time, tell him where he can shove it...lol...jk
