I agree. The loudest mouths on the issue have never served a day. But, free speech and all, guess they can. I laugh at them myself. Thumbs up.

protection tension workers and citizen infantrymen of the previous are the justifications why we've the freedoms and rights that each and every physique US electorate relish and workout on the instant. How do i think approximately them whilst speaking to them head to head? I manage them like people who I talk with that ‘ignored’ to vote in ANY election (community, state, federal). whilst they start up complaining, i will shrink them off and ask in the event that they voted. If the respond is not any, the communique or monolog is over. in the event that they ***** concerning the protection tension, a similar element. every person talking from understanding might understand that the protection tension does not circulate with out orders. To mobilize the protection tension, those orders come from the table of the Commander-In-chief…..the President. the protection tension is barely a multi-individual messenger for the government. So, in the event that they are pissed approximately what the protection tension is doing, don’t shoot the messenger!!! concentration your efforts and deliver your comments to 1600 Pennsylvania highway. this is a loss of appreciate. bear in recommendations the Vietnam conflict? diverse using draft, however a similar using fact no one that has been to the wasteland, there now, or will setting up there got here to an settlement among one yet another to %. up our kit and head East. perhaps those that have in no way served have heard the oath that each and every member of the protection tension had to take, perhaps then they might comprehend. We made a promise, signed a settlement, and conserving up our end of it. What might ensue if all human beings in the protection tension that doesn’t believe what is going on desperate to declare ‘F’ it and stayed domicile? I even have served 18 years and nevertheless serving in the army with 3deployments to wasteland. To previous contributors of the protection tension, thank you on your provider. to contemporary contributors, stable serving with you women and gents.

My reply is for jakepi21 and shows the TOTAL ignorance of those NOT in the military trying to answer military questions. FYI, jakepi21, the military does pay taxes. We have the same taxes taken out on payday as everyone else. In a sense, we pay our own salary. We also pay into social security, just like everyone else. As far as state income taxes go, it depends on your home of record. If you're from TX, there is no state tax but if you're from WI, there is. Just like everyone else.

Yet again someone NON military proves their ignorance in military matters.

Enough said!!

I have incredible respect for the military, despite having never served.

i have close friends and family who have served, and I would probably be considered pro-military by most people who know me.

That said, as a taxpayer, I pay your salary and in a democracy, I have a say how that resource is used. you can not just dismiss an opinion because it comes from outside the military apparatus.

just like I can not dismiss an opinion from someone within the military as being too narrow focused.

Compromise is part of our culture. The lack of compromise in certain parts of the developing world marks them as the inferior cultures today, and ultimately doomed.

Well said. If you read a lot of the answers, the lack of knowledge by those that never served to be really high. But then most are DNC or AlQueda talking heads.

Nora, your lack of knowledge on the constitution is amazing. Go try again.

In a free society, the sole purpose of the military is to serve the people of the country. In the US, the Constitution forbids a 'standing army' which means that the military could be disbanded and funding ended with no problem at any time.

If the military-minded among us want to control their own fate rather than be subservient to the will of even the least citizen, then they will have subverted and defeated their own goals and lofty purpose, which is to defend the ideals and people of the United States.

A pox on military supremacy, and all who think that way!

As a Navy-veteran, I served 15 yrs so that those who did not serve COULD flap their lips if they so CHOOSE...

Just as some choose to post racist questions... that would get one discharged from the Service.

Just as some choose to post sexist questions... that would get one discharged from the Service.

Just as some choose to post partisan political questions... that would get one discharged from the Service.

Just as some choose to post inane questions... that would have kept your from qualifying for other than deck-division (sorry Boat's).

In the United States (and for the most part, the internet) you have freedom of speech... with that comes some incredibly foolish speech...

Someone mentioned that "a standing army is "illegal" under the constitution" ?? Please point out in which Article or Amendment that is encoded !!

i know im not military, and i know i dont have any experience, however i do have the right to think and to express another point of view. no, i'm not going to try to make decisions about ur job...it's ur job...u guys dont tell me where or when or what i'm allowed to fly so i wont tell you who or what ur allowed to fight or how. But u do have to remember that a country's military does reflect on that country. Some people will only see you guys and the position you are fighting for and that forms their opinion of the rest of the country... so when it comes to actual facts, i dont know much...i know some stuff cuz i did apply to the canadian military, i am friends with a lot of military personnel, but i will quite willingly say, that i'm not completely sure of facts...

that doesnt mean that i dont have opinions...valid ones at that. and sometimes people want opinions from more than one point of view, so yes, i do have every reason to post answers. as long as any facts i claim are supported with actual sources, or i state that it is my opinion...

GUYS, I REALIZE THAT YOU HAVE SOME PROBLEMS WITH SOME NON-MILITARY PEOPLE ON THIS SITE, BUT CAN YOU PLEASE NOT GENERALIZE IT TO ALL OF US??? JUST CUZ WE CANT ALL DO MILITARY SERVICE AND DONT HAVE THE SAME EXPERIENCE DOESNT MEAN WE DONT RESPECT YOU AND DOESNT MEAN WE CANT STATE HOW WE THINK...can you please try reading some of our opinions with open minds, cuz we do care and we just want to try to understand and maybe give another opinion.

I have family that's in the military, I would never do that, I couldn't handle other people controlling my life for any certain amount of time. Unfortunately for me, they do anyway, when it comes to my loved ones that are in the services and going into them. So some of us have every right to voice our opinions on that subject even though we haven't been in it ourselves.

I think my opinions matter to DOD. I've never served as a member of our fine military, however DOD pays me as a contractor for my opinions on certain things, so I'm guessing they must be of some value.

Where have some of you people been all your lives?
You have been kept alive and safe by better people than yourselves.
I paid federal taxes, state taxes, and social security taxes the whole time I was in the military (both Navy and Army).
I now pay taxes on my military retirement.
If you can read this, thank a teacher.
If you are reading this in English, you can thank me and a few million other veterans and active duty people.
