That depends on many factors including the race, social status, language spoken and religion of the immigrants vs same factors in community where they settle. Some who immigrate here to flee war, oppression or poverty often find themselves in slums and are viewed in a negative light. They often overcome obstacles with help from U.S. citizens with similar beliefs (religion) or ethnicity. The demographic of a State, city or community has a bearing on who might be welcomed openly and who would not be so welcomed. Catholics, Jews, Italians, Cambodians, Vietnamese, Chinese, Chechnyas, Mexicans, Russians, etc., etc., have all immigrated to the U.S. and have experienced varying degrees of acceptance and prejudice. I can not think of one state being more tolerant of immigration than another state in general, only that people resist those who are significantly different than themselves.

Immigration is a legal process. States do not really have the right to deny legal immigration.

Illegal immigration, is a whole different ball game.

All states favor illegal immigration, and all states disfavor illegal immigration.

Most states do not favor amnesty for illegal immigrants, and only those states with no illegal immigrant population are still neutral on the issue.

Immigration is a Federal Matter, not a matter for the States to favor or disfavor.

It seems to me that the citizens of most border states, who are affected by illegal immigration, are vehemently against ... and the citizens of states who are not directly affected to any great extent, are more lily livered about it ... with the exception of the illegals themselves and their vocal supporters in the border states ... as for legal immigration, haven't heard many people from anywhere being against that ....

I clearly understand your question and states do have something to do with it because each individual state can make their own laws as to how to govern their territory. As in california when the law was passed to prohibit landlords to rent to illegal aliens I think in Texas they are against illegal aliens but I really have yet to see any action towards doing anything I guess with high population of Illegals here it is hard to create a law and pass it against Illegal aliens
