I just got a new Pomeranian puppy. She is pretty good about pottying outside and knows that she is suppose to do her business outside. How do I get her to ask to go outside though?

i housebroke my German Shepherd puppy FAST doing this ...

first having a crate is important. when she isnt out playing with you or eating/drinking.. always have her crated. RIGHT after you play with her, she eats or drinks... take her to the door and use a one or two word command... i use "potty"... and have a bell tied to the end or a string at her reach. ring the bell before you go out and take her nose or paw and have her ring it. of course, after she potties praise her lots!! this technique worked well for me. my dog was fully housebroken in 5 weeks.

there are also devices you can buy that allow your dog to step on a button or whatnot and it makes a sound.

Good luck!!!

Get her on a schedule is a good way. This does require a lot of time with her though. Mine is 14 weeks, and we are fighting every step of the way. However, is you watch her, she will probably start to wander near the door, and will also start to sniff the ground. Those are good signs. After several successful days of outside pottying, you should start to see her go to the door. My husky will go to the door, and if I don't get up right then, will just go. So it just depends. Good luck.

A 12 week old puppy.. does not know what you want unless you teach them... When you are home.. You have to take them out about once every hour for a few days or weeks..(Depending on the dog) each time they do their business praise them,..and you both go back in. After a brief time.. they should start going to the door to let you know... Hope this helps.. take care, Marilyn :)

You Train your Dog to Go sit at the Sliding glass door after 20-30 minutes or whichever door leads to the backyard. After doing it over and over your Dog will catch on and Realize this is what does when it needs to go Potty.

For my next puppy I will try a brilliant trick my cousin used.

She placed a set of "jingle bells" at her back door, hanging from the doorknob both inside and out. Whenever they took the dog out, they rang the bell and touched the dog's nose to the bells. When they came back in, they did the same.

Sure enough, the dog associated the noise to the action to the need, and she literally rings the "bell" when she wants out and back in!

Every dog I have had has just figured that out....once they know they are suppose to go outside....I trick to use is always take to dog out the same door everytime....once they have full control of their bladder and know they are suppose to go outside then they will realize that the door is where they are suppose to go.

well if you trained her with the potty pads for her to potty on then you need to start to move them next to the door and then eventually she will see that she is next to the back door and let you know that she has to potty. the closer to the door she gets the easier it will be for her to ask to go out to potty. good luck.

Well, I would keep her out most of the day, in the yard, (though, you will have to watch her all the time), and when she gets used to being out there, she will want to "potty" in a certain spot. (If not, when she "does" potty, put it in a spot of your choosing, and when she has to go, take her to that spot, so that she will "know".

Once she gets used to going in one spot, then you shouldn't have any trouble after that, she should "whine" when she has to go potty, and in the house.

I wish you well..

train it to go on news paper, praising it when it does use asertive voice when it doesnt then move the paper close to the door then eventually when its older take tha paper away and open the door when the dog is near it and it will run out side

the dog would rather go where it is praised then where it is punished, dont be physical with it just have the dominating tone in your voice

Either take her outside at certaintimes then she'll know but my dadtold me that his dog use to scratch at the door to tell them. So maybe if its use to going outside then she'll start to do that
