And when is it appropriate to call someone an emo?

I'd answer this in a very short easy answer but i've gotten 30 points taken away already for this.

So the long explanation is this. When I was a young man "goths" were the dirty people who we couldn't stand. Now, they have "emos" who are a mix between punk, goth, and er...uh...um...homosexuals. they are mostly "attention **ores" who live in middle class homes and find something minimal to cry and whine about. I personally can't stand even looking at them, they make me sick.

Emo (short for emotional) was initially used to describe a genre of music. It also describes fashion and behavior. Typical emo boy might wear a tight vintage t-shirt, blazer (one size too small), girl pants (low rise black jeans), and will often times be sporting a backwards mullet (long in the front and short in the back). In terms of their attitude, they try to do the James Dean brooding hot guy thing, but miss the mark and come off a cry baby, losers. That is why calling someone emo is an insult.

Don't get me wrong, emo is awesome back in the day (like 15-20 years ago), but like everything good it was ruined.

I almost forgot about your second question, feel free to call someone emo when they're whining, being a crybaby, or a loser in general.

It appears that 'emo' is a lazy derivative that changes the word to a negative connotation; just like gay used to be a valid word for happy and carefree.

Its a new depressed cutting STYLE! Sad! You know there are rockers, rappers, gothic, and then there is EMO. Free razor blade when you join. I know what it's like to have "EMO"tional problems, but it disgusts me when kids make a style out of it, which looks like they are proud of it.. Future medication druggies.. YAY
The things teenagers do for attention.
