also known as bronchitis, it is an infestation of bacteria or viruses that has occured in your bronchial tubes. If bacterial, antibiotics will usually clear it up fairly quickly, if viral, then all there is is rest fluids and wait for it to pass.

Bronchitis. A pretty sucky illness.
Antibiotics are the solution, sometimes 2 rounds (in my experience). Don't smoke, or even participate in vigorous exercises. Give yourself plenty of time to heal. I'd say about a month. Good Luck!
