My son never sleeps. He goes to bed at about midnight, and he's up 3 or 4 times throughout the night, until he wakes up at 5am.. and then is awake for the day. He just turned 4 and it's been like this for about 2 years. We did study after study, and we found out that the part of the brain that regulates sleep and tiredness.. isn't working right with my son.

The pediatritian recommended Melatonin.. it would help him go to sleep at a regular time, and would help him regulate a healthy sleep pattern..

My question is , has anyone tried this with their children? Did it work? Where there any side effects? Thank you for your info.

I highly recommend melatonin for sleep problems for children AND adults. I have used it myself several times and it has FAR LESS side effects than things like Ambien. The only side effect I got was some fairly vivid dreams (not nightmares though). I have never used it on my daughter but my mother used it on my young brother (when he was 7 years old) and it always worked great for him.

I have tried it off and on several times and it did not help me, but that doesn't mean it isn't any good. You can find all kinds of information about Melatonin, side affects etc. but I would be careful about giving it to a child that young.

Melatonin helps to relax the body...I have never tried it on children but I have tried it myself before and it is an all natural way to help you get to sleep.

Never with kids. I would get a second or third opinion to be sure. Just because its not common doesn't mean its dangerous.
