I recently bought a house without a fence. It's in a quiet neighborhood, and it's a bit of a fixer-upper, and I just haven't gottne the fence up yet. Right now I don't have the money to either, because I don't want to put up a cheap one.

The problem is, my neighbors have a dog. Their dog and my dog get along great and play together, but their dog is not on a flea medication. Mine is, but I guess because of the other dog, she keeps getting fleas! So far I've started putting Frontline on her every 3 weeks, using capstars, bombed my house and yard, and she is still getting them, even though now I don't let her come in contact with the other dog.

Now my poor baby is starting to loose hair... I don't know if it's the chemicals or the fleas. Does anyone have any suggestions for dealing with problem fleas?

P.S.: I've tried talking to the neighbors about keeping their dog out of our yard (b/c she also poos in our yard and it's big dog poop) but they're not listening.

I have had major problems with fleas this summer but we tried this stuff called biogaurd and that worked really well and if you put to much on her or give her to many baths with flea shampoo it will hurt her skin. i also used minral oil and i killed them off really well but i am not sure if it will keep them off yet. Just remeber the oil will make your dogs fur kinda nasty for a while. try using dawn dishwashing soap to get it off. also you may want to buy some kind of bug poison and spray down your yard with it.

You Should Talk To Your Dogs Vet, Especially If Your Dog Is Loosing His Hair, It Could Possible Be A Reaction To A Chemical That You Are Using To Help Prevent Your Dog from Fleas, Or Some Other Reason, Either Way Your Vet Should Know What The Problem Is. It's Worth A try.

I would take her to the vet...
What I would do, even though you have already tried this is... give her capstars, they last up to 24 hours just give them to her when you notice her having a problem (as long as it is not within 24 hours of giving the first one) and keep doing that until the flea problem is taken care of... or you can try taking her to the vet to get flea dipped and they can also give her a soothing bath to help take some of the irritation away from her skin! keep up with the frontline (the only thing i do not like about frontline is that the fleas have to bite them in order for it to die but they can stay on them! also, do not give more than the suggested dose and the don't give closer than the suggested amount of time!!! this could be part of the reason why she is loosing hair, along with the exessive amount of scratching and biting!)
As far as your home, vacuum everyday... i work at a pest control company and a lot of people do not know to do this. Make sure you throw away the bag immediately after vacuuming into an outside trash can (i would even put it in a plastic bag and tie it up before doing that!) and bombing everytime you think you are starting to have another problem or using Siphitrol Sray, from the vet, or if you feel you can not take care of it yourself call a local pest control company (if you do, you need to plan to be out of the house for atleast 4-5 hours, during that i would recommend getting the flea bath!) just remember to vacuum EVERYDAY!!!
As far as your yard, the vet has a yard spray that hooks to your hose to spray the entire yard to treat for fleas and ticks...
I would stress to your neighbor that you think your dog is getting fleas from their dog and suggest that they have them treated, make sure they do not let the dog in your yard... especially if you are treating it!!! if they do not abide by your wishes, you can take legal action... that is considered trespassing, it is your property not theirs as long as you tell them verbally first!!!
but, make sure you can get that fence up A.S.A.P.!!! and as long as they have that dog (whether you have a fence or not) make sure to treat your yard on a regular basis, just to save you from any more trouble than you have already been through!!!
well, i hope all this information helps!!! and good luck!

Also, i want to add... that fleas are very hard to get rid of and you WILL need to do more than one application in your home/yard!!! most pesticides will kill all adults but break open the eggs and you will see those approximately 7-10 days after that treatment! just treat again... make sure you get every square inch of your home... they typically burrow in carpet fibers (it is best to treat home immediately after vacuuming because the carpet fibers are open and the chemical that you use can get in there better!) but are also in cracks of the floors (hardwood, linoleum, tile, concrete, etc.) and even treat your closets!!! this will have a better outcome if you treat the ENTIRE home!!!
again, hope all goes well and good luck!!!

you need to take your dog to the vet... if shes loosing hair its prolly from bathing her so much if you are, and prolly too many chemicals, which isnt safe. bathe her in dish soap, not detergent, the regular soap, and try keepin her inside for a while after bathing her, and until you get any advice from your vet, keep her inside. if house training is a problem... they have dog training pads at wal mart, and if shes too big... and smell is a problem... put her on a leash and let her out in the front yard for a few minutes to do her business every other hour or so. keep her out of contact from other dogs and just... sit tight and wait til u get help from a vet. hope that helps.

There are some yard treatments that you can get that attach to the hose. That will kill them in the yard. I know they probably will not listen but they need to do the same, treat the dog the house and the yard. As long as there are fleas in their house they will travel to yours if they are attached at all. I would definitely put something up to barracade the other dog from coming into your yard.

My dog just got rid of his fleas, They were a nuisance. I gave him a bath every saturday, and brushed his fur with a fined toothed comb. i also gave him a flea collar which are veyr cheap at your local grocery store like walmart or something liek that. i also bought flea carpet freshner..for the house and sprinkled just a tad bit where he sleeps. Dont let the dog poop in the yard. keep the other dog away. because it may have fleas.. and also. dont worry about the hair it will grow back. just give the dog plenty of protein, like cheese, lots of milk, etc and the fur will grow back!!!

I don't think fleas could cause a dog to lose hair- I have dogs who live outside, and they've never had flea medication in their lives. They're just as furry and pretty as ever- I'd say its either too many chemicals, or a skin condition. Ask your vet!!

invest in some frontline if they fleas are that bad its going to take abt 3 applications to get rid of them completely but u will notice after the 1st app bec they adults will die but there are still eggs and once they hatch and bite they will die too. fleas are bloodsuckers and can cause anemia and even death so if u love ur baby then get some frontline.

First, it seems you really need that fence that will keep the other dog out.

If your dog is loosing hair it could be too much medication, but also since he can't play with the other dog he may be very stressed about it and depressed which causes hair loss.

Please contact your vet about this.
