Good question. A perfect being should have no desires, for him/herself or for anyone else. A perfect being by definition must remain in static beingness since perfection can't move, show emotion, act, ect. This is why the common conceptions of a perfect God, at least in my opinion, do not work. They break their own rules. An evolving, magnificent yet imperfect God seems to fit current conceptions of God and would also allow God to both act and not act within the universe. Perhaps this would explain the existence of evil a bit better than the more orthodox explainations. Evil exists because God is not perfect and either cannot stop it, limits it from becoming worse but isn't able to obliterate it, or is a natural result of a beautiful yet imperfect creation. This God then would be able to express desires. I like the question - very nice.

Because god is a God of love and the giver of life. He created us in his image. So we have desires just like he does. He desires that all of us become better people and live or lives obeying his will. { By the way God is a spirit being and does not have a body like humans.} Don't you want to pass on good genes as well as good habits to your children? I know I do.

The being called God , with all the attributes He has, as understood by believing humans, cannot possibly have any desire. Desire can be about something we do not have as yet.
Cannot apply to God. So it seems an absurd understanding about God, that He could have desires !

God has no desires for Himself since there is absolutely nothing He needs. He only desires that we have eternal life with Him.

God is a soul like humans with feelings and emotions. He has the desire to make everyone equal and life as fair as possible.

What do you desire for your children. God desires the same for his, who is us. He eventually desires for us to all come home to Him. Why do you desire these things for your children? That is why God desires them. Oh and God does think. He can do anything he concieves of.
