One of the best rated small cars on the market currently is the Honda Civic. It has been redesigned and is not the econobox of years past. The Civic isn't the cheapest small car on the market but if you look at various websites you'll see that it is one of the best rated cars around. Plus, they have a strong reputation for reliability, high resale and excellent fuel economy, so it is an all around value for your money.

ummm if it is for a family of like 3 (mom, dad, and kid) then u could probably go wit the Toyota Yaris if u want some good gas mileage, otherwise i might go with a ponitac grand prix, pontiac G6, or maybe something along the lines of a Ford (don't like em cause every one that i have purchased is a friggin lemon or somethin)

I recently purchased a used Chevy Cavalier (2002) and am quite impressed. It is a very low maintenance vehicle and I get 400 miles to a tank of gas. 35mpg. It is big enough for me and company. Trunk space for groceries. And all replacement parts are pretty standard.
