Because our society tries to take the focus off of God in everything. How many people feel stressed at Christmas vs. PEACE at Christmas? Because we are too busy shopping and decorating and hosting parties and attending parties. It's the same reason our schools have become war zones - God (prayer) taken out and chaos reigns.

People have lost sight of the real reason and become brain washed by the media and the stores that put out Christmas stuff right after Halloween!

It's just got worse and worse over the years. with there being the "number 1" gift for kids and trying to get people presents and stuff they will like.

it's not about spending time with family any more it's about the hussle and bussle in the shops and finding the ideal gift for someone!

with all the advertising on tv and stuff it's been forced onto us that it's more commercial and a lot of people choose to follow suit!

its a great way for retailers to make money and each year we spend more and more on xmas because of the presure of getting the perfect pressies for your loved ones. I say go back to the satsuma an the raisons in an old sock at the end of the bed an family traditions and give the retailers something to winge about.

I only celeberate wineter solstice. christmas, it just a tradition that has gone way out of control ...it's become about shopping and gift giving which i personally think is overrated. why can't people just be nice to each other thru out the year and not just at christmas time..it's rediculous.

Every Holiday is. Capitalism is part of America, I embrace it, but keep my focus on the love behind the gifts I give and always do my best to give gifts that tell the recipient that I know them well and know what would make them happy, and give it. I don't care what gifts I get, I am always grateful to the givers.

Christmas doesn't exist in this borough, we have a "Winter Festival", but when I visit other parts of England I must admit it has become over commercialised

Because the Devil took it as his own (in the form of Noddy Holder), and tempts us all to commit the deadly sins of greed, sloth, pride and probably the others as well!

I love christmas!!! Good food, good drink, plenty of healthy sinning, and people buy you stuff! Brilliant!

All together now......."It's chrisssssttttmmmaaaaassssss!"

I agree with that and quite frankly it upsets me. However there is room for error there, because getting together and thanking God and Jesus Christ for all they have done for us is not wrong. But I have actually read that we aren't supposed to like gifts. But I have a feeling, it was misinterpreted and more like means "bribe of a gift", but I like buying things for family and friends, it feels good. And I trust in that feeling.
