Here is the problem, I work a couple days a week, I am taken a lot of hours this semester, I'm in a sorority, involved with Habitiat for Humanity, the Hope Care Center, volunteering for a political party, and to top it all off, I live in the dorms. I don't have time or the facilites to cook healthy meals for myself. I try to keep fruit, vegtables, or basically whatever will keep--in my dorm room, but you can only keep so much--and only so much will keep. Did I mention I have no money too? I can't afford to buy groceries constantly. So inconclusion, my question is--what diets are avaiable in this situation? Ideally I would like to cut out carbs, but there isn't a lot of wiggle room.

String some guy along long enough for him to buy you a really good pair of running sneakers and other clothes that keep you cool while running.
Then run 2 miles per day, 6 days per week(away from him if you need to).
Keep it up and stay away from the "party food".
Good Luck

Just eat less overall. I would say you need to cut down on your committments as it sounds like you've overextended yourself and using them as an excuse not to exercise/eat properly. As for the no money issue, I had a job where I made about 100 bucks a week which was more than enough to buy groceries for a month, I think you need to be more consciencious of what you buy at the grocery(don't buy processed foods, snacks, soda or alcohol, buy in bulk or drink just water). Then schedule time to go to the gym a few times a week to build up muscle and do cardio. I believe a change in your lifestyle is necessary or you will have very poor health from poor diet/exercise/stress.

In the end, you will be happier and healthier. And you'll lose the weight!

Buy a few nutrition books and learn about nutrition.

You need to make a decision if "habitat for humanity" and "hope Care Center", your sorority or other such activities are more important than your health. (you need to take care of yourself first)

You say you don't have time, that is bull, you need to MAKE time. If it is important enough to you to improve your life and appearance and most importantly your health you will do it.

You can get healthy foods in most places and it is cheaper to go grocery shopping than it is to eat out.

Start with Eat Drink and be Healthy, The Harvard Medical School Guide to Healthy Eating.
It is a good place to start for nutrition information, unlike the Fatkins diet, this is not a "canned diet" plan but simply information so you can make your own decisions as to what is and what is not healthy rather than a diet like the atkins which is designed to sell because you lose weight in the short run, but run the risk of damaging your body and health and gaining more fat in the long run.

Stop eating as much... Only eat as many calories as you expend. So if you are only burning 1600 calories a day doing what you normally do, eat around 1200 a day to lose weight or eat around 1600 a day to stay at your current weight. You burn about 60-80 calories an hour when you arent doing anything and your awake... so figure it out. HOW MANY CALORIES DO YOU BURN... and then figure out how many calories you need each day and make meals accordingly. I spend about 35 bucks a week on food and it works great. I drink coffee for breakfast, about 2 big cups using low calorie creamer and sweet n low. I eat a sliced chicken sandwich on wheat bread for lunch, maybe with a low calorie yogurt... the key to all of this is the calories... NOTHING ELSE MATTERS... so count THOSE. I also gave up soda that isnt diet. I think I lost the most weight from that alone, and because I havent gone back to that, I've been able to keep all the weight I lost off. The best thing about exercise is you can do it for FREE. To lose weight you should be doing an at least 1hr. of exercise 3-5 days/wk. This could break down to something like:

1. 2 wks: 3 days cardio @ 20 mins + 40min regular exercise = 1hr
2. 2 wks: 3 days cardio @ 30 mins + 30min regular exercise = 1hr.
3. 4 wks: 3 days cardio @ 40mins + 20min regular exercise = 1hr.
4. 4 wks: 5 days cardio @ 40mins + 20min regular exercise = 1hr.

The cardio must be heartpumping (jogging, jumping rope, etc.) and the exercise should work muscles like abs and hips (situps, squats, etc). And guess what, all this is FREE...so no excuses. In addition, there are 168 hrs. in a week. If you can't find 3 hrs of 168 to devote to your health, thats another issue.

South Beach sounds pretty good for you. You can eat "roll up's" which are just lunch meat with cheese in it rolled up, not processed cheese, hard cheese you have to cut up. Also nuts are on this diet, as is tuna. If you search the web for southbeach diet you will find lots of lunch recipes. For diner, I think you would probably have to cook the food. I remember being on this diet and thinking "I never shop in the middle of the store anymore, only around the outside cold area and fruits and veggies"
Good luck

You don't mention what you ARE eating. Do you eat at the school cafeteria/student union? There are healthy choices there ... salads, fruits, etc. If you are constantly eating fast food, you're sabatoging your weight loss efforts. Expend more calories than you take in, exercise, and drink plenty of water.

Sounds like you have deeper issues. You are spreading yourself too thin...and eating too much besides.

What are you trying to compensate for? To whom are you trying to prove that you're valuable?

One other note, more studies are showing that not enough rest contributes to overweight. For obvious reasons:
-You are tired so you eat trying to get an energy boost.
-Your willpower goes down when you're tired.
-You get less exercise when you're tired.

You've chosen good things, but often people have to choose between what's good and what's best. That's a tough choice.
Moreover, you by being involved in too many things, none of them will get your best, and you may not be doing them that much good.

You will have to evaluate your life to solve this one.
