I have had four male cats in my life, never at the same time, healthy and neutered and had to get rid each one of them, cause they were constantly marking their territory all of the time, I spent a ton of money replacing carpets. I have have three females and never had that problem with them. My kitten did at first, but once she was litter trained she stopped. Females are not as territorial as males, females do not mark their territory once fixed, males continue to mark even after fixed. Choose a female, you will definitely be happier in the long run. I know several people who have had marking problems due to male cats.
Good luck.

If you're planning on getting your cat spayed/neutered, that really makes a difference. If that's the case, I'd say get a male cat. If not, get a female, because a male will be spraying all over the inside of your house. I personally don't have a preference... I have many cats and I love them all!

Get a male neutered cat. I have wondered this myself and asked many people about their recommendations and they all said male cats because they are more affectionate and playful. Females can be also, if you happen to hit the right one.
I just adopted a male and female because my husband wanted a female and she just hides. Our last female was very aloof. Our little male is the most perfect kitty. So get a male.
Also, don't know why but several people have told me black or black and white male cats make the best ones.

Well no matter what sex animal you get, if you get them "fixed" spayed or neutered then there are no real differences that i can tell between the sexes. I have both a male and a female cat and while they have their own personalities they are both cool. Now if you dont get them fixed here are the issues: male cats "spray" urine all over the place and your house stinks. female cats get pregnant. I would go to the local animal shelter, look at kittens and pick one that seems to be playful, loving and sweet and love it not matter whether its a boy or a girl. Also males are cheaper to get fixed.

Females make better mousers and are better if you're looking for a indoor/outdoor cat who will "have a purpose in life." Female cats that I have had would enjoy going on walks (hunts is how I suppose they saw them) with me...they would just tag along within about a 10-15 foot radius of wherever I was going - scoping things out.
Males are better if you're looking for a more affectionate cat and plan on it being strictly an indoor cat (because they'll wander far and wide if they get a chance). Also, spraying is a concern, whether they're fixed or not.
Regardless of which sex you choose, you'll probably be much happier if you have it spayed/fixed early in its life. It makes a huge difference in their adult behavior and forestalls a number of potential problems.

I had a wonderful female feline for a companion for 16 years.
Since her passing, I have adopted a 2 year old male feline. I have to say, that so far, the male cat is much more affectionate.
He actually seeks out human contact and affection. My female feline didn't seem to care if she had affection or not. I have had no problems with "spraying". This may be due to the fact that he is neutered. I plan to have only male felines from now on.

Yes, you definately have to get them fixed whichever sex you pick. The smell of the urine of an unneurtered male cat is unbarable, and unspayed female cats will stay in heat until u get her fixed, so she could just keep having kittens all her life. I don't think the behavior of the cat depends on the sex, make sure the first week or two you allow the kitten to be around people, that way it will learn to be more social.

Female cats are more possesive, so if you'll want to get any other animal while your cat is still alive, you should go with male. As long as you get the male fixed, you shouldn't have too much trouble with him.

We prefer females. Males 'spray' to mark their territory. Females seem to be a little more loving too. Either way make sure they are spayed or neutered. There are enough cats running wild and unloved and I think they make calmer pets when they are not running around looking for a mate.

Hi Im Kurtis, I think it does not matter, if you get a male or a female. becuase if they two animals are spayed(female) or neutered(male) then their personalities would be, alike in many ways. As where if the two animals were wholesome(werent fixed) then they would be much more territorial, and have a tremendous urge, to venture out which could be hazardous, to their lives, and others.!!! Personally I think you should get a femlae if your a girl, and a Boy if Your a boy
