If you need to go to the hospital or ER, they will help you to apply. New York's medicaid is so much better than many states - they give adults eye exams and glasses, dental coverage, etc. Many states stop those things when one turns 20 (or 18).
Look up medicaid in the state government pages of your local phone book.
