You need the required "codec" to play AVI files on your comp.
Download Gspot to see what codec is that file then you download the required codec...

*AVI files are mostly either Xvid or DivX

ps: DO NOT download any codecs pack as it will mess up your comp, only download the required codec.

OR

Download VLC Media Player, it can play most of the file formats such as AVI...the codecs are build-in so you dont need to download any codecs...

AVI files can use different codecs. Probably the one you're trying to play uses a codec taht you don't have installed. Search for a XP codec pack on the inetrnet and install one. The most popular ones are DivX and XviD.

The whole ideea is to figure out what codec you need. There are also tools that will tell you that, like Media Inspector.

It could be as simple as right clicking the avi file, clicking "open with" and selecting media player.

some avi file will not work. at that time you can use real one player if it is not working in real one player. sure the quick time player will work
