I dont know what service you are in but you could look at just getting a swap so that someone else may volunteer to take your assignment and you can stay where you are. I would be careful with trying to get out of an assignment. I know the AF has a thing to where if you cancel and assignment it can cause you not to be able to reenlist.

just merely wanting to stay in an area is not enough. the base needs to have a use for your job skill(and paygrade).

It used to be that a sailor fresh out of A school could show up to Yokosuka Japan, and retire 20 years later with a Japanese wife, and 4 kids without ever once having left the Kanto Plain. But they discovered that over time, things went to hell in a handbasket due to all the incestuous relationships that were going on.. people would bounce between three or four commands and efficiency suffered and generally the commands grew complacent. Now, unless you are the cream of the crop, you get to stay inone place for more than one or two tours.

Most you can do is see if someone is willing to swap orders with you.

Does your branch of the service allow you to "home-base" or select a base of preference? Tell your husband to talk to the folks in Military Personnel. It may be too late since you already have orders, but then again, if you don't ask you don't get...Only other way I can think of would be if your husband had humanitarian reasons to stay there, like a parent who was terminally ill or something like that.

Say what? Reason to change the orders?

This is new on me -- and I did deploy, had TDYs, etc -- and even raised TWO Disabled children from infancy to toddlerhood to early elementary school (as a SINGLE PARENT NO LESS!) before I RETIRED from Military Service -- and NO -- I got no special treatment due to my children's disabilities or the fact that my ex-spouse abused my children and I had to continue to deal with the court proceedings from the ex's abuse.

I have never heard of this. I was in the U.S. Army from 1991-1995 and the only way you could get out of an assignment was to not re-enlist. If your husband does not re-enlist than you can stay where you are, otherwise get ready to move.
