No, was Christ a coward? Moses? The most meek men who ever lived and they were examples and heroes. Meek simply means humble or not full of one's self or arrogant,

as in meek shall inherit the earth?? I think it means those who hold back, are patient and wait on the Lord. We are impulsive by nature, but our first impulse is usually not the right thing. A coward is afraid. Meek is humble and submissive. People on this site love to go to the dictionary. Do this with biblical writings and you will forever be lost. Always look for the bigger picture.

Interesting question. I would say not. There is nothing wrong with not being a big feeling abnoxious ***. Which would not be the meek. just in my opinion. There is a fine line between being a coward and being smart enought to run --smile--. The bottom line---- if it comes down to it, take a *** whippin before backing down.

Meekness in the biblical sense is being meek in one's approach to God ... as opposed to prideful.

It's not a sign of cowardice, but of respect and reverence for God.

As for meekness in other facets of Christian life, we do what's necessary. Sometime meekness is an asset, sometime not.

Jesus refers to himself as meek.

Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Mat 21:5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ***, and a colt the foal of an ***.

In the original Greek the word translates as Greek is "praos", which id defines as gentle or mild, meek.

When compared with the recorded accounts of Jesus that we find in the 4 Gospels, He can hardly be considered a coward. So, no meek is not the same as coward.
To begin with, He showed us exactly who He is. He did not hide behind a non-descript generic face or an avatar to mask Himself. This is strength of confidence and under control, one not needing to as cert his will or bully.

Meek means gentle.
Matthew 11:29
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

This is Jesus speaking, I would not consider Jesus a coward.

No. Being a coward is being afraid. Being meek is being complacent and undemanding and cooperative and strong.

I didn't think so, as I thought of meek as "a gentle disposition" but the dictionary also says "lacking backbone, submissive" I guess it depends on which definition you look at!

Being meek and overcoming the desire to beat someone's brains in when they provoke you requires real moral courage.
