Personally I'd stick to L'Oreal.
Love their products & I don't have a bad thing to say about them. I use preference to colour my hair & I don't want to use anything else.

Before I had much gray, I used Clairol's Loving Care. It's a semi-permanent color, and washes out after six shampoos, so you're not stuck with it in case it isn't the right shade. Loving Care is very gentle to the hair as it doesn't have peroxide or ammonia in it. Most other hair coloring products are for gray coverage and are more permanent. However most products contain a lot of good conditioners that will keep your hair shiny and minimize damage.

l'oreal is the best brand on the market. however, i would switch to the feria line. it comes out exactly how you would want it. it is also very easy on the hair, so if you were to get a different color than you would want, you can still dye the same day. just make sure you look at the side of the box. you will get the color on the side, not the color of the model.

Check out a Sally's Beauty Supply, they have an excellent variety of brands and colors. You might want to pick up a "glossing treatment" it's just like hair dye only it makes your hair really glossy and shiny.

I mostly use Schwartzkopf (they have different brands):
'Country colors' has the most regular shades and is not so 'aggressive' to the hair (my experience)
'Vital Colors' is good too
'Live' are amazing: nice strong colors (doubt there is brown in this brand) that keep very long, even on grey hair. But it's more agressive to your hair, so be sure to use conditioner or special shampoo (when you wash it the first times after you died it) to keep your hair strong...

If you have to do it yourself, anything L'oreal is the best. It has the least amount of chemical dyes in it.
