Is it possible for dogs to suffer from allergies? I have a 6-year-old Basset Hound who is miserable. His eyes are watery and they have a lot of "sleep" in them. I'm keeping them as clean as possible. He's never had this problem before. Also, I was wondering if it's safe to give him a small dose of Benadryl or whether I just need to make a vet appointment. He's eating and drinking good.

I have an 8 year old beagle with very bad allergies. The vet told me to give her a benadryl tab every morning. Works very well! (My beagle is about 25 pounds and I give her just 1 tab, 25 mg.)
Of course, check with your vet before you give him the benadryl.....

i would just call a vet and set up an appointment if you are worried. I don't know if dogs can have that kind of allergy or not but if you are worried then better safe than sorry. maybe he has an eye infection?
