The pronunciation of "zoology" is [zoh-ol-uh-jee], however it is common to hear this word mispronounced as [zu-ol-uh-jee], due to the familiarity of the word "zoo" which is an abbreviation of "zoological garden."

A zoologist? You would need to start with a degree in biology, and then animal medicine. As far as I know. A zoologist is a person who works with animals, usually at zoos, but you could also work at wildlife preserves, state parks even, possibly. If you get to work with penguins, I'll be very jealous!!
