The term comes from electronics where in schematics draw out an electronic circuit. A circuit makes a complete path from the Negative pole to the Postitive pole. When something gets crossed and connects these two early in the path, it creats a new "shorter" path, thus the term "Short Circuit".

These descriptions are way too long and winded. A short circuit, plain and simple, is when the electrical source is connected directly to the ground, with nothing in between. The result is an extremely high current.

A short circuit is any low resistance current bus in an electronic circuit or electrical connections , as due to ohm's law that
current = voltage / resistance
so the current passing through this pass is too high causing more damadge to other components inthe circuiy or may cause explosion if occurs in an electrical connection .

willy talks about "something" "grounding out."
Grounding out? What the hell is grounding out?
Speak English.
And isiman84 says "...when the electrical source is connected directly to the ground"
What the hell has "ground" got to do with it?
A short circuit can exist in any electrical circuit whether it has some connection to earth or whether it it totally isolated from earth.
The word "ground" is usually used without understanding what it means.
