Start flossing at least 6 months before your next Dental cleaning!
lol
If you know you are not going to be a regular flosser buy a power toothbrush! Over lap it on the gums(half on gums half on tooth) on the outside (near cheeks) and the inside (surface of tooth near roof of mouth on top and tongue side on bottom). AND or buy a waterpick.
Use listerine 2x a day also. "yes, Helen Hygienist, I floss everyday!" yea, we know

If your lack of flossing has caused your gums to start bleeding or periodontal pockets to form, it will take months to get them back into good shape. Don't try to fool the dentist or hygienist. When they say "you haven't been flossing, have you" or "how often do you floss", don't be stupid and lie to them. They can tell. It is YOUR mouth -- you can choose to lose the teeth or have to have fillings and crowns. I know they act like you are a bad boy, but that is because they truly care about your dental health. Fess up. And, then go home and start flossing daily.

The dentist will be able to tell how often you floss, and what kind of toothbush you have been using. So dont think your going to pull the wool over their eyes. You really need to floss everyday. I do after every meal, it's great for your gums.

You need to be flossing everyday. Not only when you go to the dentist. Flossing in conjunction with brushing will help to prevent many issues. The hygienist / dentist will know if you haven't been flossing regularly. You don't have to try to fool them, they take care of their teeth, it's your choice to take care of yours. Remember you only get one set of teeth, they do not grow back like hair & nails. Good luck to you!

You should be flossing after every meal. I found that flossing did not work and my dentist suggested these toothpicks called mentadent. Use this instead of floss and you will find it feels and works much better. If you don't floss, you will get gum disease and can loose your teeth even if they aren't decayed.
