Just randomly go up to her and kinda ask her her name and start converstation off of that. it may sound lame but if you are cute it will work and if she is single. Then like your next question could be what she likes to do for fun.

Try to find some things you have in common. If you have a class together or take the same class, that's a good starting point. In fact, anything at school is a good thing to talk about first. Ask her about her favorite subjects and interests, or talk (not maliciously) about people you may both know. If you have a mutual friend or acquaintance, ask that person to introduce you. Try doing some non-couple things first like doing something with a group of friends.
Good for you for wanting to get to know her better first. So many people put on this forum that they like someone and want to have a big romantic date right away, or that they don't even really know or like the person but want to know what to do on a date.

Well for starters just start, by being her friend. Hang out and just be cool, Therefore u know if shes ur type without getting into a relationship and having to brake it up later. Take her out to movies, Tell her to bring a friend and u bring a friend and double date. Do cool things like that , But dont give her too many hints . Later u will know if she likes u too so u dont feel dumb asking her out and she saying "no", then u can start by giving her hints. But be patient give her a couple months (yes a couple months) Let things flow naturally, dont rush. It should work out great. Take care and always be polite and a gentlemen. Ur making a good choice by getting to know her first.

Do you like to hike? Ask her to go hiking with you. Do you like to go to amusement parks? Ask her to go along. Do you like to go kayaking down a river? Ask her to go along. Throw a party and make certain to invite her.
All of these activities provide time to talk and get to know someone without asking her to go on a date. Somewhat deceptive tho....
