if they were repatriated to their country of origin it would free up a lot of places.

Also it is an abslutely crazy idea to give them £2,500 to go home to prison, what kind of incentive does that create!!

Go to The UK, do a crime, get caught, get sent home with free money...

this government has totally lost it.

''Placing the blame on immigrants''....

Of course i am! they are the ones doing the crimes and being sent to jail for those crimes.

also it is not your buzzword 'racism' to state this, it is the truth. if they weren't commiting crime they wouldn't be in jail. Logic enough for you?

This government doesn't have a clue, didn't they recently let a load of illegal criminals out of jail and have no idea where they are now???

they are a useless bunch of F...ing idiots who couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery, honestly something needs to be done and soon,

'Why not let all 11,000 out on the streets and have a illegal criminal amnesty'. I'm surprised that no governmental half-wit hasn't suggested that yet!

Yes, and that's probably a lower figure than what it really is!! The £2,500, does not go to the prisoners though,it goes to a third party. It cost the taxpayer £37,000 (or thereabouts) per prisoner, per year,to keep them in our prisons. So its cheaper to give the £2,500! What I would like to know is WHY,has it taken so long to deport these prisoners? WHY wait until the situation is at breaking point? As is usual with this Government, its down to total incompetence!!

Really? Who says? thought even the government didn't know how many there were. Why send them home with money? Just sending them home would be enough surely?
I'm sick of this country pandering to all but those who really need help and attention. Let's all get out of here, then the government will have to look to other immigrants for the taxes to give to the poor criminals who need repatriating!

If you read the story again, it isn't cash. They would be "promised" (whether they would get it is another question) social services to keep them there.

But most of the 11,000 are in prison for drug offenses. Many were mules carrying drugs into the country. How they got visas is what I would like to know. If they devoted more money to doing background checks on Jamaican women applying for visas they might not have to spend so much on keeping them in prison.

As the papers said, many of the prisoners are Irish. They are not aliens in Britain (Ireland Act 1949) and they and other EU/EEA/Swiss nationals can't be deported or paid for leaving. With a very few exceptions under EU law.

Totally nuts, we all know they'll come here commit the crime get the payout and catch the next flight back over. we are too soft in this country on liberty takers, there is no deterrant, bring back capital punishment that'd empty out the prison system.

Thank God this government weren't in charge of national security of our borders during the last world war - Germany could just have walked in and taken us over. We used to have a good Coastguard Service watching our shores, enough Immigration Officials to stop illegals entering our country at ports and airports, and a civil service with integrity and pride in their jobs as servants of the electorate. Now we just have a load of sloppy free loaders propping up the government of the day and sobbing about not have equal wages to the private sector employees. The country has gone to the 'dogs' and we are all sick of it - a generalisation I know, but I haven't met anyone in years who thinks the UK is as good a place to live as it once was before 'career politicians' took hold.

out of 80,000 people who are banged up 14,000 immigrants just under 14% i think. The report said they were immigrants it never said they were illegal immigrants..So given the fact that there is around 60 million people in Briton .The prison balance seems about right .And as for people in prison not everyone is guilty 'I know that for a fact.So lets say all of the immigrants are kick out .there still won't be empty jails will there .Because it's not just immigrants doing crime is it .Or are you that blind .Don't get me wrong anyone who is guilty of a crime should be looked away .
