First off christians please dun interupt this and flag down every individual with bible BS this question is in no way directed toward you or YOUR views on the matter.(quite honestly I have seen enough gay bashin BS answers and questions tonight) Now I am not gay but I do think gays should have the right to get married WITH PREVISIONS! First off in the constitution of the united states of america Matters of religion and church shall remain seperate and equil, The goverment shall not hender, select, or elect one religion over another and shall therein show complete secular beliefs. First off if you want a marrage the goverment CAN NOT deny you that right as marrage is a RELIGIOUS RIGHT and not a GOVERMENT OR STATE RIGHT. So therein They have no choice legally without breaking the constitution but to give u a marrage certificate. Now if u want a marrage in a church I am sorry but the goverment can not force a church to abbide but you have several options open, pagan marrages, -Wait>>

non-religious in the magistrates office, etc so on and so forth heck there are even churches during the debates that where marrying gay couples but the state refused to acknowlege it therein again since marrage is religious they can not do that. So what am I saying the world unfair? well yes it is when a women can stuff super sized Big macs down her kids neck and sue McDonalds because she overfed him AND WIN thats unfair but thats america so why don't all gay couples get together and form a class C class action law suit against the US for crimes irrehincable in a break with Sep of Chu and State, Win an assload of money and force the US to backlog the anti marrage laws? Unity over oppression wins over lack thereof

OMFG carol you can take that bible and shove it clean up uranus for all I care cuz u know what? From my understanding if I was a christian I could go out **** a million men, lie to the court about a nabor, kill kids, smack my parents and at the end of the day you know what? Cross on the chest and kiss my fingers and its all clean or.... ask for forgiveness. So sins are really just a temp so no one cares. Thats what u get for disrespecting my humble request.

Thanks everyone who took to this swimmingly and gave nice clean answers and whatnot to those of you acting like (blah) dun invite yourself in :P and to those of you that angue marrage is no longer a religious affair (and pagan marrages are counted or me myself would have been sueing people lol) but here the way the world works in the US if the goverment admits its a non-religious affair they can ban gays but thats sexual discrimination which is unconsitutional and they gotta stop allowing people to get married in churches, temples, fields(myself) etc. They deem religion goverment has to stop screening marriages, only keeping a record of the marriage. Either way they go you got legal rights you can dump off so gay guys/girls need to get together as a mass and storm washington and demand right even just equal union(I think thats right) either way you got them on a wall you just gotta press and fight for it, mind you not wantin' destruction but a peaceful protest (million man march,so on)

You have a point but I believe the problem arises because marriage though orig anally religious is now, a legal state of being. Such as with debt, a spouse is legally responsible for the debt incurred by their spouse, same with taxes. These are legal governmental issues having nothing to do with the union spiritually of two individuals. If the government then states that this legally binding union is then one only between that of a man and women (which in my opinion is sexual discrimination) then the gay rights to marriage issue is moot. The spiritual union of the gay couple can still be attained but the legal coupling does not apply because of the qualification. Quite frankly if I were gay then I would be happy about that fact. I don't like the fact that my husband can, if he wanted, run up all kinds of tax debt, go into hock up to his eyeballs and if they can't find him, I have to pay it off. There are ways around inheritance and family only in hospitals etc that can be done but it takes doing the necessary paperwork first. "Marriage" religiously speaking was never a governmental issue before the Romans. It was a "leave your mother and father and cleave one to another" situation without even ceremony. These issues happen when the government starts legislating morality. Which as you can see by recent events, doesn't apply to the law makers.

Marriage unfortunately means two things in this country -- a religious blessing and a civil contract. To properly be in accord with the Constituton, the government must cease handling Marriage and return to being in the business strictly of handling the union.
I am gay. If I go to a Roman Catholic priest with my mate, and ask to be married, he should look us in the face and tell us to get lost -- it would be abomination according to his faith to do otherwise, and it's his right. If we go to a pagan friend of ours and that person agrees, great, we're getting Married. But this is not a legal contract, it's a religious ceremony; government has no business in religious ceremonies. So now we go to the Government and ask to be married. The proper governmental response is, "Um, marriage is an inherantly religious issue. We can however give you the paperwork for a Union License. That'll be $10 please."
This is how things need to be. And as a gay man, I think gays really shot themselves in the foot demanding 'marriage' instead of 'civil union'. We turned it into a polarizing issue, and the Christians just played along into the excuse we gave them.
Which is more important -- the legal rights... or a word that has been rendered meaningless by a 52% divorce rate anyways?

good point.... I am not gay...used to be curious decided quickly it wasn't for me.. My mom on the other hand is. And I am happy for her because I finally can see her happy. She was miserable when she was with my father... I would have not been able to accept another man dating her.. but a woman I look at it like this at least she has something my dad couldn't give her. My mom has always been bi. when she was 16 she talked to her counselor about it. He was a christian so he damned her to hell "like ya do".. She knew she couldn't change the way she felt so she attempted suicide. She didn't succeed thankfully but it goes to show what damage religion can have on a person. I wasn't surprised at all when she told me after all we would be walking down the street and any time my dad would comment on a woman my mom would have the same reaction. but anyway they were married a few years ago in a pagan ceremony but like you say it has no benefits. I am the one who performed their service. ALL of the people that matter to them were there. and that's all nice but IF my "step-mom" has a bad car accident and is put in ICU my mom will not be able to visit her.. Because they are not family. even though they ARE married. they don't care about tax breaks or benefits because they are gay. they only want to be recognized as a couple for these purposes. Gay marriage is NOT unconstitutional it IS against god but who cares.. I consider that forcing your beliefs on others which isn't right. My parents ARE happy and they have the right to be even though they arent "Christian" but I can only tell you my opinion and hope someday the government will realize the error of their ways and legalize it.

Well, you sound like you are trying to be informative not condescending to any one. Ok that said, if you think about it,the government has made plenty of mistakes. Segregation was a huge thing to over come but they did. And women getting rights to vote? Wow, our great great great grandma's would be so proud. Now on their (the gov) plate, should gays be allowed to get married? I think so, I am Christian and thoroughly believe God didn't create people just to be persecuted (NO MATTER< BLACK, GAY, WOMAN, UGLY, GORGEOUS, A CHILD). We are a family, sometimes I think I'm the only one who feels this way, but I do. "I have a dream..." that people will stop hating each other for no reason. They just want what God wants, a peace ful family life. Sometimes I think "gay" people are just generally more happy with themselves than straightfolk! Wonder why? Maybe cause gay used to just mean "happy".

I don't understand why Christians say that gays getting married threatens their own marriages. Wasn't that what they said about Black people and White people marrying 15 or 20 years ago? And why is it any of their business, anyway? It seems to be real important to them to force their religious views on everybody else. Frankly, I am very tired of it. Look at the political and economic situation the country is in now--it is THEIR fault because they voted for Bush en masse so they could force their religious views on abortion and gay marriage and a wide variety of other private (PRIVATE) personal issues on everybody else with their appointees on the supreme court and to teach their version of the bible in place of science and reality in public schools. The country is going down the tubes because of them, and truthfully, if the country is stupid enough to let them run things, it should go out of business.
Gee, I see all the ignorance and intolerance and hate from Christians, what a fine testament you are to the love of Christ. OK, lets have a bureau of religious enforcement made up of preachers from churches you don't belong to set up to judge who you can marry. Why stop there--give em power to decide who you can date, what you can do in bed if you get married, how many kids to have. If you want to see what life is like in a theocratic state look at Iran! Better yet, move there.

Well I'm a heterosexual Christian I don't agree with gays being married BUT none the less you are right the second amendment no the government can not stop a gay marriage yes marriage does have to do with religion. BUT also these days the government does what it wants to and nobody can stop them and the government can change the constitution whenever they feel like it. So you are right and wrong. A lot of people in this country see gay marriage as unnatural and of course gays say that people who think this are close minded and then to this people say gays are going to hell. So if gays want to get married why don't they go to Massachusetts or wherever that state is where its legal for gays to get married. I say let them do what they want its their life not mine. If they want to be married let em.
BUT IF THIS COUNTRY STARTED TO ALLOW GAY MARRIAGES GOD WOULD PUNISH THE UNITED STATES SEVERELY!!!!!!!! THIS COUNTRY IS ALREADY GOING TO HELL!! (NO NOT LITERALLY)

There are NO gay marriage rights documented in ANY city hall!
There are plenty of valid NON religious arguments against gay marriages
This is NOT a religious fight this is a ground breaking decision on what the framers of the constitution and the laws of the land understood as marriage and is it flexible or ridged.
You need to better think your arguments as there are some valid reasons for AND against gay marriage.

because of the fact, Time has surpassed. That act on my own is elementary in how we % persons, circumstances, and prerequisites. If I have been to assert (confident it is off subject rely) could you like this glass of milk? you would be able to assert confident....then you certainly pass to take the glass of milk and in easy terms then do you comprehend that this glass of milk is gross and eco-friendly. you may now no longer desire the milk. yet howdy earlier hand you probably did DIDNTT YOU!?!? cuz after all you have a series concept of what milk is, how scrumptious it truly is...yet this milk is diverse subsequently you act in any different case in the direction of it by potential of thanking the guy and pouring it down the sink. nevertheless that analogy may be off relation the assumption is the comparable. all of us have set of ways gays, blacks, jews, hispanics how EVEYROEN would desire to be. however the certainty of hte rely is everybody is diverse some are immoral and filthy in basic terms as some right this moment white adult men are. we are all unique. over the years we improve, and we discover ways to pass those "set values of ways everybody is" on, in basic terms as our mothers and dads (those adult men calling blacks immoral contained in the 50's) surpassed those comparable VALUES ONTO US. nevertheless....we are no longer those adult men contained in the 50's are we? no. right this moment we are ourselves, we've the skill to make our very own alternatives, no longer the techniques that our mothers and dads and grandparents made. because of the fact after all the international is diverse now.....hahaha.....we are able to work out that the milk is gross and eco-friendly while they could no longer. So the question isn't whether or no longer they're the comparable gay rights and black rights....for it truly is erroneous to assert they're while time has elapsed yet extra importantly what do we do NOW with the techniques that are unique in front persons right this moment... so as that in line with risk. in basic terms in line with risk our destiny would be diverse than the destiny our grandparents from the Fifties gave us. Be open minded and in line with risk issues will substitute for the extra effective :)

I don't think the governments of the world have a right to state who you should be married to. I am not gay either, but I do believe if same sex partners are in love then they should be able to get married to whom ever they choose and have the same legal rights as any other married couple which also includes adoption and pension rights.

That's true-- the open Pagan marriages thing. You could always perform a handfasting, but the problem is that that does not come with government benefits unless you get a marriage certificate and a Justice of the Peace declares it a valid marriage. At least, I don't think it is. o.O Maybe a (Wiccan/Pagan) Priest or Priestess can do that.
Edit: Guys, the question is coming, he hit the thousand-character limit.
Edit: Carol, HOLY ****. He asked you not to quote the Bible all over the place, but you just can't ******* help yourself, can you?
