What would you do in this scenario?
Say you were watching the news, and they were talking about some maniac loose in your neighborhood. Suddenly you hear a noise in your house and the power goes. You go for the phone, but the line has been cut. You start to stand only to hear the sound of a gun cocking behind you. It's the maniac.
He tells you that unless you say that:
a: For Atheists, that God (or some god) exists.
b: For Christians, that God does not exist.
c: For Muslims, that Allah does not exist.
Et cetera, et cetera.
He seems sincere in that he will not shoot you if you say it. You do not have a gun or any weapon, and if you try to move he will shoot you and you will die. You don't have a cell phone that you can sneakily call the police with.
Will you answer with an affirmative, forsaking your beliefs but surviving? Or will you refuse and be killed? You have no other choices. I don't want a bunch of "lol i flipz out and killz him furst".

Tu Nga: The purpose of my question is to find out what people think about saying this in a life-or-death situation. I never said they have to mean it.
Also, the purpose of this question is to get your answer, not some ambiguously-worded statement that dodges around it.

You can say anything.
It only matter what is in your heart and no one can take that away.

I have often wondered when seeing things on the news how I would react to the problem. In the end I find I really don't know because you can't fathom it until you experience it. I would have hope I would act one way but no one really knows until they have been put there. One's character comes to light in a crisis and often surprises even the owner. So I quess its important to know your beliefs are not just surface but deep in your core so when tested you are who you believe you are.

Yes, I would tell him whatever he wanted to hear. Who cares, I don't want to get shot. Hell, I would even eat meat if he asked me to and I've been a vegetarian for 23 years. I would try to get the gun and shoot him in the nuts if I had the chance though.

I'm an atheist. I would tell him that God (or some god) exists.
Sorry, but being forced to say something on pain of death does not make me a hypocrite and does not really matter in any other way.

While in my heart, I would never deny my beliefs, I have a husband and a 5 year old daughter, and I think that God would prefer that I was here for them, so I would tell him what he wanted to hear to save my life (I would not mean it though).
WOW - what a hard question!

Since you have a lot of ifs and assumptions in your question i will make certain assumptions as well. That is the only way to answer a question like this. I'll be wearing a bullet proof jacket and helmet carrying my sidearm having just come back from work as a swat team member. Since the electricity is cut off i'll turn around and blow his ******' nuts off !

Pray for strength .It would depend on many more factors. Are my family members home? Has he already killed? Am i carrying my weapon? I would tell him what he wanted to hear until i had a chance then" lol i flipz out and kills him furst".

I say whatever he wants me to say, I smile, offer him tea, make him comfortable, get him to leave, then call the cops and get him arrested.
Then I make sure every day for the rest of my life to send him a letter in prison telling him what an idiot he was for thinking a gun changes someone's beliefs.

I would not say that God does not exist, I'm a Christian follower of Jesus and I would not deny Him to the end of my life on earth.
Once I'm dead I'll never have to be faced with that choice again and will live forever.

I would say whatever he wanted me to say. Survival of the fittest calls for adaptation and thinking on your feet. So, I would then tell him about how much I like the type of gun he has chosen for his activities on this fine day, and my how attractive he is too.
