CORK radio station was running a competition - words that weren't in the dictionary yet could still be used in sentence that would make logical sense. The prize was a trip to Bali.
DJ: "96FM here, what's your name?"
Caller: "Hi, me name's Dave."
DJ: "Dave, what's your word?"
Caller: "Goan... spelt, G-O-A-N, pronounced 'go-an'."
DJ: "... You are correct, Dave, 'goan' is not in the dictionary. Now, for a trip to Bali: What sentence can you use that word in that would make sense?"
Caller: "Goan fcuk yourself!"
The DJ cut the caller short and took other calls, all unsuccessful until:
DJ: "96FM, what's your name?"
Caller: "Hi, me name's Jeff."
DJ: "Jeff, what's your word?"
Caller: "Smee... spelt S-M-E-E, pronounced 'smee'."
DJ: "... You are correct, Jeff, 'smee' is not in the dictionary. Now, for a trip to Bali: What sentence can you use that word in that would make sense?"
Caller: "Smee again! Goan fcuk yourself!"

Ha thats brilliant.
But I'm afraid I can't answer your question.
I'm Irish not American and everyone knows the Irish have a great sense of humour.

Re the American connection, I heard of an "open microphone" incident last week, in which defence secretary Rumsfeld was heard to say to President Bush, "Sir, we've had news that three Brazilian soldiers have just been killed in Iraq". There was a pause, then the president was heard to ask "Donald, how many is that, exactly?".

That is funny, but what do you mean by Americans in general not having a sense of humor?
I have never heard that stereotype before.
I have heard the stereotype that British people are stuffy and don't have much of a sense of humor, but then what about Monty Python?
Are you forgetting all the comedies that come from America?

Excellent. That Avatar looks familiar. Are you a member of the BMW owners club and a user of the web forum by any chance?

It's a bit harsh to suggest that an entire, and very large, nation, has not one particle of humour among the lot of them. The nation that gave us Seinfeld, Frasier, Cheers, Friends, The Simpsons - need I go on? You think they have no humour? Really?

Fab joke, very funny.xxx
I don't think Americans have no sense of humor. In fact I bet that most of the comedies we watch at the cinema are American and there are loads of great American comedians I think people in general have their own tastes in humor.xxx

I love that, it's funny. My boss is American and you can't tell her any jokes because she doesn't get them. She only laughs at things she's said and we can't understand her. I have to translate her ramblings into English. I bet someone complains about your question though. Ooh i do love a bit of controversy! :)

And that demonstrated that American's have no sense of humor how? Funny joke though...but I'm lost on the point of how or if it can be demonstrated.
