It is a very complicated disorder. I also suffer from it and I am on medicine to help control it. I have severe anxiety attacks to the point where I can not breath, my chest feels tight, and I shake on the inside. It is something that is so hard to explain unless someone else has the disorder as well. It is very scary when an attack comes on, but I have learned to cope and work through them. I told myself that I was not going to let it control me or my life. I have been going through this for about 2 years and I am not being weaned off of my medicine to a lower dosage. I am so proud of myself and how far I have come. Please be patient and you will get better in time. Whatever you do, do not rush the healing process, take it one day at a time. Good luck and I wish you all the luck.

Greetings:

Sorry you are having trouble. But please be careful about diagnosing yoursefl or letting anyone else diagnose you--because too often errors get made in doing so.

Simple questions need answers: when do you get anxious? What does it feel like? Has this been going on a long time? Is anyone in your family prone to social anxiety?

These questions need to be asked with friendship and generosity toward yourself. Often times social anxiety is conditioned and there is an art and science to freeing yourself from conditioning--without medication or diagnoses.

Good Luck!

Basically, it's fear of being with a group of people or even an individual in extreme cases. It is caused by fear. Fear of looking like a fool or fear that someone is going to harm you or something. Overcoming it is a matter of confronting your fears and boosting your self esteem and self confidence through a means called cognitive therapy.
