Be careful how you teach this lesson so the kids don't grow up to be judgemental. Someone else answered that there are all kinds of additions and that is the most important point you can make. How many "Christians" out there openly condemn the drug user and then go home and self medicate with chocolate cake and soap operas? One is no worse than the other in terms of giving Satan a foothold in your life and taking you away from Christ.

Use the Christian perspective and remind the audience that ANYTHING we do (drugs, chocolate, video games, etc) in such excess that it makes us feel bad about ourselves, or takes away from living the happiest life we can lead, is going to open the door for Satan to work against us. Whether it be thru personal guilt, bringing negative people into our lives, or simply because it takes up so much of our time we can't appreciate the blessings around us. Jesus said, "I have come so that you may have LIFE, and have it to the fullest." So the important lesson is that you should always strive to live a full life, by not hiding behind addictions, so that God's Will for your life can be best realized.

I would tie in that addictions aren't just drug based. You can be addicted to ANYTHING. Drugs, sex, alcohol, the internet, porn, tv, video games, the list is endless. Explain that any vice can be harmful, not just the obvious ones. One could even be addicted to religion/faith. I wouldn't go there for the sake of controversy, but think about it.
