You do not have a "Pet Dog", you will be their Guardian. Do not pick a "Pet" based on cuteness, pick the "pet" on your being able to show LOVE for "it" If you go by your heart you will do just fine. May I also add before you do, PLEASE know how to care for the "pet" you are getting and be READY for the responsibilty of Vet Bills, walking, loving, and your TIME.

NEVER EVER EVER EVER buy a dog solely because of how it looks. Different breeds have different personalities and demands. When you decide to get a dog, Its NOT a decision to be taken lightly!!!!! You are going to have this dog, on average, for 12 to 15 years! That's a LONG time! You must be sure that the breed you get is compatible with your lifestyle, situation, and personality. Some dogs are very domineering and require an owner that can take charge, some dogs require ALOT of grooming, some need a job to do or they get bored and destructive, some need TONS of exercise. If you get a "cute" dog that turns out to be incompatible with you, and you realize that you don't want it anymore, for whatever reason, then it will end up among the thousands of homeless dogs being put down in shelters DAILY because you weren't responsible enough to do your homework.
That said, I have found some really helpful websites to point you in the right direction:
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/search.htm
http://animal.discovery.com/breedselector/dogselectorindex.do
http://www.eukanuba.com/en_BI/jhtmls/breed_selector/sw_BreedSelector_page.jhtml?li=en_BI&bc=E&pti=BS&sc=&lsc=&bsc=
For more of these, just go to Yahoo! and type in "dog breed selector" and more will come up
HAPPY HUNTING!!!!!!!

you should try the shar-pei they are extremly loyal and love attention i have one and she loves people and other animals her best animal friend is a 1200 pound horse and they play together she also house brok within 1 week she never pooped just peed. there grate dogs and adoriable with all the wrinkles and when you go looking for a dog look at there eyes to make sure and ask the breeder if the parents have any problems. my shar-pei nows when shes alowed to do something like she wont beg she wont bit u unless we say she can but if she get ruff when were playing we just say easy and she stops alltogether... good luck finding a puppy.p.s. dont buy a dog from a pet store because most of the time they have health problems or there STOLEN.

Of course, I am gonna say a Boston Terrier! These dogs, are the most loving and loyal dog you could ask for. Iraised them for 10 years, but haven't been raising them anymore for the last few years, but still have a 2 year old 'Bubba" and he is sooo sweet, and they would rather be with their owner, than another dog, very cuddly, and easy to keep clean. They do snore though, but it's funny.

http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/abc.htm Look at this website they have every pure breed dog and some hybrid dogs (beagle+pug=puggle). you want to pick a breed that suits your life style. this helped me to find my puppy (which is a basset hound) i sat there one day and looked at every breed that i thought was a possibility. you need find out if your prices range since puppy go from free to 4,000 you need a watch dog companion, size all of that how much they shed and need baths/nail clipping. its a big decision to get a puppy, but it was the best one i made!. you can also look here www.petfinders.org they have dogs for adoption which vary in age breed alot of them are mutts but are adorable. good luck!

Depends what kind of dog you are looking for. Pomeranians are good dogs to own if you are looking for the small kind. Very loyal, and try to act 3 times there size sometimes.
