It is possible but not likely. If it is still under warranty and you are concerned, you could have your dealer check it out.

It is possible for it to be off of the tire size is off. On gms I know you can set the tire size of the vehicle with the scan tool if you change your tire size so the speedo will still read properly. I have seen where this was set wrong from the factory and just needed to be changed. You can check to see if the the spedometer is correct by going 60 mph on the interstate for a mile. When you as you pass a mile marker start your timer when you come to the next mile marker if you maitain 60 mph it will have taken you exactly one minute to drive that mile. If it take you more or less time your speedometer is off.

Yes ..... definitely... Any odometer can be inaccurate if you modify the vehicle.
Have you modified the SUV in any way? Because bigger or smaller wheels and/or tires can and will not only throw off your odometer but also affect your speedometer. A new transmission or gears can affect it also. or consider that someone might be doing the math wrong (you or your sister).
When calculating MPG you must also consider other factors, such as weight in the vehicle, Time of day when driving (temperature does affect MPG), A dirty air filter decreases MPG.
I could go on, but you get the point, MPG between similar vehicles will differ.

As far as th odometer is concerned it cold be inacurate. If you have put over or undersizes tires on it that will definatly throw it off or if a previous owner had it calibrated for for a differnt tire. Gas milage not only varys by driver but also by vehicle. Depending on age, milage, previous treatment, oil change intravals, air filter, etc. Take it to a tire center and have it recalibrated.

The odds of your odometer being "off" aren't very likely, but the size of your tires will change your odometer reading,as well as your speedometer reading,(your speedometer could be affected by anywhere from 5-10 mph.) You can find out if your speedometer is "off",by driving beside someone ,who is doing 55,(or speed of your choice),and watching to see if your speed is consistent.Or you can ask an officer to "clock" you, from point "A",to point"B".

Possible but unlikely. Next time you're on an Interstate
compare your odometer w/ mile markers. Try to run
it out for 20 miles or so then do a comparison. That
should tell you all you need to know.

It might actually be part of the odometer, not the whole thing. Have a mechanic check it for you.
