Am I allergic to yellow jacket bees?

On Oct.8,I got stung by a yellow jacket bee I took the stinger out,but then the next day it got itchy. Am I allegic to yellow jackets?

First of all, the chances are that if the stinger was left in, it may have been a honey bee. YJ's are nasty because they don't loose their stingers, and can sting multiple times.
What you experienced was a local reaction. It is not a sign of an increase in risk for severe (anaphylaxis) reaction. Sometimes the swelling can persist for days, and that's OK too.
You don't need to see an allergist (I am an allergist) but if the swelling persists, or gets infected see your family doctor for treatment.

The only thing is, you can BECOME allergic at any time. You need to worry if you get stung and the site swells excessively, or if you feel like your throat is closing up or you have trouble breathing. An allergic reaction will most likely occur within a very short time after being stung, not the next day.

This isn't unusual, you were injected with a mild poison. It will act similarly to a mosquito bite with a raised welt and itchiness.

If this is the first time you have been exposed to yellow jacket bee poison, your body's protection system has now been sensitized to it. For some who are "allergic" to that particular poison, any further exposure to it will cause a shut down of your immune system, called "anaphylactic shock". People who are overly sensitized, or allergic to bee stings usually carry a high-potency antihistimine injector. Being stung could cause their body to shut down and die, so it is very serious.

No, if you were allergic you would itch all over and probably puff up a little. In a more severe case you would find it hard to breathe. But if it only itches on the spot you got stung you aren't allergic.

sounds like you're having an allergic reaction and the flaws stoning up are hives. you'll need an epinephrine shot, you could bypass on your interior of reach pharmacy & see in the journey that they can assist, or bypass to the ER for treatment. in case you could wait see your widespread care generic practitioner even as they have an establishing.
