The best way to get a correct answer is go to a Christian bookstore and get a book that tells about their beliefs. There are some very good books out there that are written by former Mormans. You will be very surprised on there beliefs. My church had a study and was lead by a pastor and former youth director of a Salt Lake City Morman church. It was enlightening. God Bless.

A good question that fosters a lot of erroneous responses. Nevada Nomad and Caicos Turkey provided the most correct replies thus far. Miskeny is deluded that we are allowed to have four wives. Polygamy ended for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in October 1890. Those practicing it fell away from the church and are not Mormons--they are excommunicated.

We believe in God the Father, His Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost that make up the holy Godhead. It is through Jesus Christ that we go to return to the Father's presence. It is the Holy Ghost that manifests truth and righteousness and that Jesus Christ, through His infinite Atonement, is the Savior and God of this earth.

We are all spiritual children of God the Father and remain so. Jesus Christ was the First Born; Lucifer and the rest of us came sometime afterward.

The Reorganized Church split away because of doctrinal differences. Now, they no longer use the Book of Mormon. What does that tell you? They are not Mormons.

The other splinter groups living in the Southwest that practice polygamy today risk not only excommunication from the Church, but will face legal prosecution from federal and state laws. They are openly violating the laws of the land and will have to face the consequences. What's more, they are NOT Mormons.

We believe the Bible to be the word of God as it has been translated correctly. We also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God through the prophets and apostles that had made those sacred recordings in it.

We know from whence we came, what our mortality is, and where we want to go and how to get there. We tolerate and respect the beliefs of others and will never denounce them saying they will go to hell simply because they do not believe as we do. They have God's gift of free agency to believe as they wish--just as we do.

Mormons are all over the world--educated professionals and layman alike. We serve in a church of unpaid ministry while continuing our occupations. The bishop could be a carpenter, a brick mason, or a doctor. Occupations do not matter when we are called to perform and serve in the Church.

I trust this explanation, along with the replies of Nevada Nomad and Caicos Turkey, helps to bring more understanding of the LDS faith.

Added Note. The poster Minister has been fed many mistruths. We do not believe in reincarnation for it is a doctrine of Satan. It was not Brigham Young that stated, "As man is, God once was; as God is, man may become." We believe in eternal progression, not sitting around playing harps on fluffy clouds for the eternities. We will continue to learn while in Paradise, and, after our resurrection, in our heavenly mansion that God has provided for us.

Second added note: Minister, the phrase was uttered by a subsequent prophet and president in the Church. And eternal progression does not mean reincarnation in any form. Aren't we all progressing now in this mortal state by learning new things and ideas? You've just learned that reincarnation isn't what you originally thought it to be.

Descendants of the lost tribes of Israel ?
had an interesting chat with an English mormon preacher girl, in Scotland. She did not tell me a lot about Joseph Smith and his new found holy writings but she told me about how the church was set up. They way that i heard it there is one like main dude ( don't ask me his name ) who presides over the global brotherhood and then there are 70 other designated ones spread out around the globe overseeing in the various other parts which their ministry reaches. This is in harmony with two scriptural principles. One being the appointment by moses of 70 older men as judges and secondly, the 70 disciples of Jesus ( sent out in 35 pairs of two ) to preach in all the districts around Judea etc.
I have heard that members of the faith are obliged to tithe, that is to say. they will give 10 % of their income to the church. i think this is like a rule . i do not know for sure. Hearsay.

Mormons as you call them, DO NOT BELIEVE IN POLYGAMY. The reorganized Church of Jesus Christ, NOT the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, believe in polygamy. When the church was first restored to this earth, then they used polygamy to enlarge the church, but it was outlawed by the church, because it was against the law of the land. The reorganized church broke off from the L.D.S church because they believed the presidency should be handed down from father to son, the Mormons believe that the prophet is called of God.

Caiscos Turkey has the right answers. WE believe in God, the Eternal Father, His Son, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost.
We believe that Jesus was born of a virgin and died on the cross to save mankind from their sins.
YES! WE BELIEVE IN GOD AND JESUS CHRIST.
I wish people that don't know the church would read about it and study it first before they start putting out answers that they know nothing about!

And Minister, we DO NOT believe that we live several lives, we believe that we are born to this earth and that once we leave we will be judged by God and then go whereever He sends us. We also believe in the Godhead. God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost.

If you go to mormon.org you can read all about the L.D.S church and what they believe.
Yes, I am a member of the church.

They are the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, commonly shortened to Latter Day Saints. Joseph Smith claimed to have found a tablet showing that Christ had come to the new world. Ergo latter day. Mormons believe in the bible, and they also believe in the book of Mormon.

Since Joseph Smith had a hair lip I believe he was trying to say book of Roman and couldn't get it pronouned right. The Mormon church is the legal authority in Utah, much of Arizona, and parts of Colorado and Idaho. The Mormon church is the 2nd largest religion in Italy I'm told.

They are a cult.
Why do I say that?
I'm glad you asked!

Mormons believe that we were preexisting in Heaven before we were borne. If you ask a Mormon if he/she is Borne Again, they will say yes, because to a Mormon being borne in the Flesh is being Borne again. They have large Families, because they must bring as many "spirit children" in to the world as they can. That is their Borne Again Experience. They never get Saved as most Christians know Salvation. Salvation is all their Works.

Also Mormons believe in a form of Reincarnation. Brigham Young wroth,"As we are god was, as god is we will be." They believe that we will progress through many Births until we are gods.

God The Father , and God The Son,(Jesus), are two distinct gods, God The Holy Spirit is a Devinne force. There is no Trinity, or Godhead in Mormon belief.

One last tidbit.....Mormons believe that Jesus, and Lucifer are Brothers.

quitarpic did not dispute any of my statements, he used Mormon terminology in discussing them. I may be mistaken about who made the statement I attributed to Bridgman Young, but he didn't say that it wasn't said, or that it was wrong, in fact he speaks of eternal progression, what is that? Reincarnation !

Find the Book I named below, see if I know what I am talking about !

they are mainly in America in Salt lake city they believe that after Jesus another prophet came called Joseph Smith i think their beliefs are some where between Christian and Muslim i don`t know if they accept Mohamed as a prophet but they are allowed 4 wives and they are not allowed to drink alcohol coffee or tea and they have to give 10%of their income to the church

2006-10-10 08:59:37 · answer #9 · answered by keny 6 · 0 1

they beleive in and primarily focus on Joseph Smith, who theoretically found some version of the Bible that has no Biblical or archeological proof or standing. They beleive that they will not get into heaven without the blessing of Joseph Smith. They beleive that when they die, they will be just like God and be God over their own universe. Women cannot enter heaven without the blessing of their husband. the list goes on.

They operate under the sheeps wool of Christianity, but it is not Christianity. It is a Cult - a group that focus on one person (not a god) - Joseph Smith
