well first of all puppies do sleep alot when they are that young but as he gets older be prepared you will have your hands full he will be full of so much energy he will wipe you out. yes also dogs do dream and they also look like they are being hurt while they are dreaming but it is normal. i breed golden retrievers and all my pups do the same thing they sleep alot and they dream alot. but as they get older i always have to prpare myself for what is coming next as they start to realize that there is more to see and do during the day. that is good that you have a vet appt next week. the way you can tell if he has been abused is if you try to pet him and he shys away or if you scold him for something and he squats and pees in fear then usually then he may have been abused befor ehe came to you but i doubt that it sounds like he is a typical puppy and is doing all the puppy things. so don't worry about him he is fine and it is normal for all the things that he is doing but that will change soon and you will have your hands full keeping up with the little guy. good luck with your new pup.
lets just hopr that your breeder was honest with you about everything. i have an 8 yr old black lab and he has been the greatest especially when my golden retriever has pups, then he has to put up with the pups when they start to walk around. they are good dogs.

An eleven month old puppy hasn't been alive long enough to have been abused.
Also "Fear memory" doesn't start until week 12. So if the pup has been afraid of something/someones in it's 11 weeks it has no memory of the event.
Remember that it is still less than 3 months old, and it's cognitive skills are very limited. It is still exploring it's world with it's mouth as all puppy's do. It sleeps about 15-18 hours during a day, waking to eat, romp, and potty, and then back to sleep.
And yes it will be chasing it's litter mates all over creation in it's sleep

We used to call this chasing rabbits in their sleep. Just like babies they do sleep quite a bit, as long as he is up and active when you are its probably nothing. They play hard and sleep hard. At very worst, its epilepsy and that's not caused by abuse. you got this pup from a breeder who let you see the kennel, so that is a plus, if there were epilepsy in the line, they would know about it . They are hunting dogs and are very active for the first two years then they quiet down a bit. Take them to obedience classes since they are big enough to pull you around if not trained and a well behaved dog is always an asset. They don't learn tricks there its just the ordinary heel, sit, stay, but done right its impressive. Check out the local 4 H club or your breeder, they may give, or know someone who gives classes.

Puppies this young all sleep a lot - perfectly normal! If this puppy's eating well and playing hard when he is awake, you've got nothing to worry about. Also, all dogs dream, and twitch and make noises when they're doing it, so again, nothing to be concerned about.
Play with your puppy lots, take him for walks, and now's a great time to teach him some simple obedience at home (no classes, he's much too young). You can teach him sit, down, start on a bit of heeling, and most importantly, teach him to come right now while he's very young and dependent on you. Enjoy your puppy!

Labs are the greatest dogs in the world. I have a 7 yr old. She still sleeps alot and snores to beat the band, and obviously dreams. She still thinks she is a puppy. She loves everyone. We have a male black cat as well. Phoenix thinks the cat is her baby. They lick each other and play together great. On one hand she is very smart and on the other she is not the brightest light on the tree. They love little children but they she is big and tends to scare them alittle.....enjoy, you have a great dog

Hopefully your breeder was a good one. You'll find out soon enough at the vet's office. (Adopt next time!! Lots of puppies at shelters and they're healthy!)
I'm sure he's just dreaming. If he acts scared or nervous when he's awake, then you have problems. But he's so young they can be fixed.
Let the boy dream!
Good luck.

Dog dreams are perfectly normal. Lord knows what they dream about but they do dream. Sleeping is normal for any young mamal. Human babys sleep a great deal of the time also. I do not believe that you have anything to worry about. Good luck with your new furry baby!!!

It's totally normal, i have a chocolate lab, she's 2 yrs old now. I use to watch her sleep and she use to twitch every now and then. She's just dreaming and she's fine.
If he's come from a breeder, he shouldn't have been abused.

I have an 8yr old yellow lab. she always has dreams. Sometimes she squirms and her legs quiver as though she is running. Sometimes she barks(muffled) and whimpers. I usually go and sofly pet her and she wakes up usually with a confused look. Its totally normal to dream she thinks she chasing something.
