Personally I think David Beckham has ruined his neck with that hideous drawing...

Surely it depends on where we both are standing?

Nichola has the right idea - something semi permanent while you are young and wanting to be trendy, which then disappears as you mature, is perhaps the ideal route.
Unfortunately, the majority of people never think of how unattractive the tattoos will look when they are in their 50s/60s/70s. I saw a bloke in his late 60s during this summer - his arms and neck were covered in designs, but you couldn't tell what they were because his saggy skin and wrinkled flesh, with muscle tone all gone, made him a blurred mess - hideous!
All the young women who are hankering after a tattoo should think very carefully before getting a permanent one. It is general fact that, no matter how women try to maintain their skin condition and muscle tone, they become even more saggy than men as they age. Those once neat, crisp tattoos will then look distorted and ugly; and as visits to doctors and hospitals become more frequent with the passing of the years, imagine what a sight a tattoed old woman will look like in the eyes of young nurses and doctors when they see her unclothed.
And re D Beckham... he doesn't care what we think because he's rich enough to shrug it off. But he still looks odd! And have you seen his arms? Gothic script everywhere. Maybe the observation once made about the number of tattoos a person displays is inversely proportional to IQ and educational attainment is absolutely true. Discuss!

tattoos r fantastic. they are alot more than they used 2 b and if people wanna b so narrow minded and judge someone because they have a picture on there body then crack on. Yes they can look a mess but alot of tattoos nowadays r real works of art and should get the credit they deserve. At the end of the day my tattoos give me confidence and hell who looks good at 60 anyway when their skin is all saggy. some of my tattoos are there 4 a reason aswell so i can never 4get something that is important to me like a person and it shows them how important they r 2 me also. Plus u wont get anything else that is such value 4 money. How many other things do ya get 2 keep 4 the rest of your life?

Personally I love the look of a well thought out, and well done tattoo. It is an artform, plain and simple, and of course the old saying holds true, that art is in the eye of the beholder. I personally haven't seen Beckham's tattoo on his neck, and would have a hard time getting a tattoo that can't be covered up by clothing... but that being said, I'm not stinking rich like he is. He doesn't need to impress anyone, it doesn't interfere with his career, so if he likes it why should he concern himself with what everyone else likes...

I have 3 one arm band, one anklet and the most recent took me over a week of searching tattoo design sites and magazines to find the very design I wanted - the first 2 were for their design and because I wanted them the last one however was a personal one - I had my daughters name translated into Kanji (her name is Chinese) and then I found a design of a mother fairy holding a baby fairy and the Kanji down beside it - it is on my upper back in the centre. All my tattoos can be covered if I want and shown when I want - my parents have never been into my piercings or tattoos however this last one my parents even love and they are very straight kind of people not into any of this at all - so my point being that some tattoos can be very beautiful works of art and then there are the ones you find on the wall LOL As for peoples opinions of tattoos - well you are entitled to your opinions but if you dont like them dont look at them its really quite simple.

I made the choice to get covered in tattoos. I'm female, and often get funny looks. Contrary to many peoples opinions, I did not get my tattoos because I like the attention, many of my larger tattoos cannot be seen on a day to day basis. I got the tattoos, because i like them, and yes, I have thought about what I'm going to look like when I'm 80!

I think each to their own. If you don't like tattoos, don't look. I don't like the fact that people with tattoos are prejudged by people without them.

I see a lot of comments on here about how tattooed women are all fat, unemployed have council houses etc.

I work, own my home, and am fairly high up within the company I work in.

I try not to prejudge people, mainly because 9 times out of 10 I am wrong.

I am quite thick skinned, so stupid comments tend not to even dent the surface.

If you want a tattoo, get one, if you don't like them, close your eyes!

I love all of mine and enjoy seeing other peoples work. I don't think anyone should ever get them because they are "cool". Get them because they mean something. People may look at mine and not understand how they could mean anything but every single one has a story. Don't get them in places where they are too obvious only because some employers don't think they look professional. It is a way of expressing yourself, and I am totally for it. I have 10 and am getting 2 more in the next week.

If tattoos are done in an inconspicuous way & are done tastefully, I have no problem with them. Some I agree, must be visible to be appreciated, but there are those that are so huge & distasteful you just wonder what the wearer was thinking. Some on the neck and on the lower back can actually be very sexy. Like all art some can be offensive & some can be beautiful.

I like the idea of a temporary tattoo that would last 10 years and then fade completely - then at 20 years of age I would have had something nice done - safe in the knowledge that when I a old andwrinkly I wouldn't have a smudgy blue stain looking hideously unnatractive! But permanent - no thank you.

it depends on the kind of a tattoo, where it is. for instance I personally would not get one on my chest, stomach, or behind because when I am like 80 can you imagine what it will look like all stretched out and discolored.

Maybe somewhere on the wrist, shoulder, or ankle is nice, it probably wouldn't get to stretched out. I imagnie in like 50 -60 years we are going to have a lot of little old ladies with tattoos.

It would be nice if somebody invented an ink that would fade over time so when a woman is in her 80's she would not have a stretched out dis colored tattoo.
