The canon AF is slightly faster than the sony and the noise reduction is a shade less. But both of them are good cameras. The best way to select would be to go to a camera store, take two shots of the same object, preferably in a high ISO (400) and compare them. Also, the feel in had will matter - so hold them in hand and then decide.

I like the Canon S31S because they advertise on national geographic with some great photos

i think canon canon S3IS is better as i m having one. it is a 6.1 megapixel camera and its really cool.
